* fix(sdk): a delete is kept hidden when any script lookup could reach it, not only an id

Move the keyframe rest-value table into @hyperframes/core/keyframe-defaults
and import it from the SDK backfill and Studio's gsapShared, replacing the two
hand-synced copies.

* fix(studio): text in Studio reads without em or en dashes
* fix(studio): the dash check also catches HTML entities, and peak reads Unavailable
* test(studio): the dash check test covers every entity form
* fix(studio): messages Studio shows from lint, sdk, core and the renderer drop dashes too

* fix(core): derive generated media labels from current source
* fix(core): decode generated media filenames

* fix(core): strip filename suffixes without unsafe indexing
* fix(studio): rename unreferenced generated media ids on replace
* fix(core): register media ID exports and trim names in linear time
* feat(core): support deterministic async frame sources
* feat(core): bridge preserved film HTML to native capture

* test(producer): verify film bridge pixels in real browser
* fix(runtime): retain queued draws and disable unsafe dedup
* fix(runtime): fail promptly on runner reloads and send errors
* fix(runtime): align film draws with export windows
* docs(core): mark frame-source hosts with data-no-timeline
A composition that follows the frame-source contract registers no GSAP
timeline, so lint reported missing_timeline_registry and every render
waited 45 s for timeline registration (17.6 s -> 1 min 47.9 s for the
14 s imported film sample). Document the existing data-no-timeline
opt-out for the host and a timeline-less root.

* docs(core): require data-no-timeline on imported film hosts
Imported film wrappers have no GSAP timeline. Without data-no-timeline
on the scene hosts and root, lint fails with missing_timeline_registry
and each render waits 45 s for timeline registration.

* feat(studio): show clip speed in the clip name as [150%] or [ramp]
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(studio): one fx badge per clip replaces the per-tool and link badges
Grey with no effects, white with any. The tooltip lists look, voice, other
fx, crop and ducking; a click opens the clip menu. The volume badge stays
when volume is off 100%.

* feat(studio): premiere-style audio gain dialog on G
Set Gain to, Adjust Gain by, Normalize Max Peak to, Normalize All Peaks to
and Normalize loudness to -16 LUFS, with the selection's peak amplitude read
from the peak map. Writes data-volume on every selected clip with sound as
one undo step. The clip menu's Normalize loudness becomes Audio Gain... (G).

* fix(studio): use a theme blue for the audio gain OK button
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): keep shortcuts out of the audio gain modal; refuse while recording
Keys pressed inside an aria-modal dialog no longer reach the global hotkeys,
so Delete on the focused OK button cannot delete the clips the dialog edits.
The multi-clip write refuses during a recording like the single-clip one.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): offer link for any unlinked video and audio pair
Link no longer requires the same file and identical timing, matching Premiere.
Same-file pairs get a sync origin so a trimmed or moved audio shows its
offset; different files link without one. Merge back is disabled until the
pair is in sync. Linked moves keep the offset, and a trim only carries to a
partner whose edge is at the same time.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): shift and cmd-click add timeline clips to the selection
A modifier click on a clip replaced the selection, so a video and an audio
could never both be selected and Link never appeared. Shift, Cmd and Ctrl
now toggle the clip (and its link partners unless Alt) in the selection;
Shift no longer turns a clip click into a time-range popover.
Right-clicking a lone unlinked video or audio offers Link when exactly one
opposite-kind clip from the same file sits on another track.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): keep audio inside its partner video and make cmd-click add in every host
A modifier click passed the toggle as an argument to an optional
onSelectElement call, so hosts without that handler (desktop) never ran it.
An audio clip linked to a video, or sharing its sync origin, now stays
inside that video's span while dragged or trimmed, Alt edits included,
unless the video moves or trims in the same gesture.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): hold the drag actor at the partner-video clamp
The dragged audio's ghost followed the pointer past the video's end while
the landing stayed clamped; it now stops where the clip will land.

* feat(studio): preview a look on hover in the clip menu before applying it
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* refactor(studio): trim comments the clip-link names already carry
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): unlinking clears the timeline selection
After Unlink both clips stayed selected, so the next edge trim ran the
multi-select group resize and the former partner still followed. Unlink
from the menu, the shortcut or an Alt edit now leaves nothing selected.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(sdk): keep a linked partner's end when a trim changes the grabbed duration
Copying the grabbed clip's duration to a partner that starts later pushed the
partner's end past the clip both ended on. The partner's duration is now the
shared new end minus its own start.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): keep every moving detached audio inside its video, after placement too
The containment clamp ran before collision placement and only for the
grabbed clip, so a drop pushed past an obstacle, or audio carried along in a
multi-selection, could land outside its video. The allowed shift is now the
intersection over every moving audio, and a placement outside it is
rejected. Link partners are matched within their source file.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): carry the normalize refusal and save outcomes into the gain dialog
Normalize moved from the clip menu into the Audio Gain dialog here, so the
volume-lane refusal and the saved/refused/failed checks go with it: a lane
owned clip is refused, and a failed single or multi-clip save rejects instead
of reporting success.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* refactor(studio): trim comments the gain and multiselect layer added
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* refactor(sdk): split the linked partner's duration out of partnerTiming
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(sdk): refuse a linked trim whose new end would cross the partner's start
With linked video [2,8] and audio [3,8], setTiming(video, {duration: 0.5})
computed a partner duration of -0.5, skipped it, and committed the video alone,
leaving the audio outside its video. The partner edits are now planned before
any mutation; a non-positive partner duration throws ("Linked audio would start
after the new end — unlink or trim the audio first.") and can() reports
E_LINKED_PARTNER_CROSSED, so nothing is written and the undo stack is
untouched. In Studio the refusal fails the cutover (never declines into the
legacy path) and the timeline resize toast shows the reason.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(sdk): key a linked edit's grabbed baselines by composition scope
planLinkedTiming stored each target's timing under its raw data-link id, while
linkedPartnerIds scopes link ids to their host composition. One setTiming naming
a root video and a nested video that both use lk-1 kept only the nested baseline,
so the root audio was skipped and left past its trimmed video. Baselines are now
keyed by host scope and link id, the same rule linkedPartnerIds uses, for both
the partner trim and the crossing refusal.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* test(sdk): run the two-scope grabbed-baseline cases on an inline composition too

* feat(studio): order the clip menu into time, sound, picture and delete groups
Split and Freeze frame; Normalize, Voice, link items and Duck; Look and Crop;
then Delete beside Delete this clip only. Each item file renders its pieces
separately, empty groups collapse, and the viewport clamp uses the measured
menu height instead of a row-count estimate.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio-server): mint freeze-frame right-half links with the shared lk-N helper
Freeze frame now calls core relinkSplitHalves, so split halves and freeze
halves share one link-id convention instead of L -> L-2.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(studio): apply speed edits to every data-link member in one undo step
The inspector speed slider, rate lane edits and ramp presets on a linked clip
now commit once, writing the selection and, via expandToLinkedMembers, each
partner from its own current value. Unlinked clips keep their usual path.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* refactor(studio): drop the audio parent tick in favour of the data-link chain badge
A linked clip now shows one link indicator: the chain badge driven by
data-link. The waveform no longer draws its 1px parent tick.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): follow late clip-menu rows and target link partners like S2
The menu height follows a ResizeObserver so rows that read the live preview
after mount still clamp inside the viewport. Speed fan-out builds partner
targets with buildPatchTarget, matching the link edit plan.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): show the sound strip and audio menu items without studio's shell
The audible-video waveform strip drops AudioWaveform's 16px label band, which
left a 0px canvas on short lanes. Normalize loudness and Duck under voice fall
back to the timeline session's project, the live preview iframe store and a new
onNotice edit callback when no StudioShellProvider is mounted.
usePreviewIframeStore is exported so a host can publish its preview.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): show duck under voice only when a voice overlaps
The item now appears only when an overlapping voice exists or the bed is
already ducked. Its check mark moves to the right edge so unchecked rows
align with siblings.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(studio): name the partner in the clip menu link and unlink items
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): clip menu stops offering unlink once the clips are unlinked
The timeline skipped store updates when only data-link changed,
so the menu kept reading the stale link.

* feat(core): sync origin, offset math and move/slip into sync for linked pairs
data-sync-origin survives Unlink; split gives right halves a fresh origin.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio-server): split re-mints the sync origin of unlinked pairs too
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(studio): detach, link and keep-sound cutout write a sync origin that unlink keeps
TimelineElement.syncOrigin is read on both parse paths; merge back drops it.

* test(studio): expect sync-origin on keep-sound cutout write
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(studio): linked selection toggle in the timeline toolbar, on by default
Off: a click selects one clip; drag, trim, razor, speed and delete stay on it
(delete unlinks the survivor). Alt-click still selects one half when on.
Right-click holds the out-of-sync indicator preference. Both persist in UI prefs.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(studio): link groups share a label colour; out-of-sync badges with move and slip
Red badge on both halves of a sync-origin pair that drifted (frames, s:ff past
a second); hidden when rates differ or the preference is off. The whole badge
opens Move / Slip into Sync; each edits that clip alone in one undo step.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* feat(sdk): syncOffset, moveIntoSync and slipIntoSync for sync-origin pairs
Core gains findSyncPartner, the DOM pairing shared by the SDK and the CLI.

* feat(cli): timeline rows report syncOffsetFrames and print out-of-sync

* docs(skills): data-sync-origin in hyperframes-core
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(core,sdk): keep a one-sided cut's sync origin and slip the in-point playback reads
relinkSplitHalves reminted the right half's sync origin even when only one
member of an unlinked source pair was cut, so the uncut partner kept the old
origin and the new half lost its badge. The origin is now reminted only when
both the video and the audio were cut.
Slip into Sync wrote data-media-start whenever it existed, but playback
reads data-playback-start first, so a clip carrying both never moved. The
link timing reader now uses playback's precedence and the slip writes the
attribute that wins; lint compares the same field. A sync partner is also
looked up only in the clip's own composition (core) or source file (Studio).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): flip the out-of-sync menu above the pointer near the bottom edge
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* refactor: trim comments the sync-origin layer added
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* refactor(core): split the scoped candidate lookup out of findSyncPartner
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(core, studio): find sync partners inside the link scope
findSyncPartner and Studio's syncPartnerOf now scope by the same rule as
link groups: the nearest data-composition-id or data-composition-file
ancestor, plus the row's compositionScope in Studio. An origin reused in a
file host or an inline composition no longer pairs across it.

* feat(studio): link-aware split, delete, alt-edit unlink and link edit actions
Split and delete fan out to link partners. Alt drag/trim edits one member
and unlinks it. onLinkEdit runs unlink, link, detach and merge as one undo
step each. Single-clip timing edits of a linked clip skip the SDK path so
its linked default cannot move the partner behind the store.

* refactor(lint): drop the rule-list comment for the linked clip rules
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(sdk, lint): keep a link group inside its own composition
Link ids are minted per file, so lk-1 is normal in the root and in a child
composition. The SDK's linked-timing query descended into nested hosts and
addressed every match with the initiating scope, so moving a root clip moved
the child's pair too; lint grouped them into one drifting group. Both now
group only members of the same composition scope.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): match linked media by full asset path, scope links, keep hidden sound silent
Merge and Link compared only a lowercased basename, so assets/one/talk.mp4
and assets/two/talk.mp4 enabled a destructive Merge. Clips now compare the
src resolved against each clip's own source file, and Merge re-checks the
two srcs in the source before it runs. Link membership in the timeline
(linked members, gesture expansion, unlink orphans) is scoped to a source
file. Detach and the keep-sound cutout carry a hidden video's data-hidden
to its audio, and Merge refuses when only one member is hidden.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* refactor(studio): move the timeline move-edits handler into its adapter
App.tsx sat at 600 lines on this layer and 602 once merged with main.
useTimelineMoveEditsHandler now lives beside persistTimelineMoveEditsAtomically,
same callback and dependencies, bringing App.tsx to 592.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(sdk, studio, lint): keep link groups inside inline compositions
A link group now stays inside the nearest data-composition-id or
data-composition-file ancestor. The SDK used to recognise only file hosts,
and Studio compared only sourceFile, so an inline child composition that
reused a link id was edited together with the root group. core/media-link
linkScopeOf is the shared rule for the SDK and Studio. Lint cannot import
core, so it uses the same two attributes directly. Studio rows record their
compositionScope, and link and merge refuse pairs that cross it.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(sdk): refuse a link edit whose partner address names another clip
A partner addressed in the caller's scope can resolve to a different element
when an inline composition reuses a root clip's data-hf-id. setTiming now
checks that each partner's address resolves back to that partner and throws
before mutating when it does not, instead of editing the root clip.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): a remote media url keeps its query when matching an asset
Two different videos at one remote path with different queries were treated as
the same file, so Merge could delete the audio and use the wrong video's
sound. Project-local srcs still drop query and hash.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): keep a remote url's query exactly as written when matching assets
Decoding the whole url folded %26 into & so two different media urls matched.
Decode only the path; the query is compared as authored.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): compare a remote url as serialized, decode only local paths
A remote pathname with an encoded reserved character (%3F) matched the same
path with a literal ?, though they can return different media. Remote urls
keep origin, path and query exactly; local srcs are still decoded and
stripped of query and hash.

* feat(runtime): route processed audible videos through web audio in preview
An audible <video> joins the Web Audio schedule, hidden-toggle and
group-capture passes when it needs a gain el.volume cannot express: a
boost above unity, an fx chain, automation, or an audio group. A plain
audible video at unity stays on native output. The clock master stays
audio-only; a video whose capture fails stays on native output (never
decoded, never failed closed).

* feat(audio): let audible videos join audio groups in preview and render
resolveAudioGroups, audioGroupOf, group render ids, the engine mixer and

* fix(runtime): capture ramped clips so a group's bus carries them in preview
A rate lane skipped Web Audio entirely, so a ramped video or audio clip in a
group played native output without the group's fader, mute or FX while the

curve; the media-element capture can, so the skip now guards that fallback.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(studio): show meters only for videos Web Audio carries
A plain audible video at unity stays on native output, which the meters
cannot read, so it no longer advertises them. The runtime's join rule and the
meter gate now share audibleVideoNeedsWebAudio (core/audible-video).

* test(sdk): render-faithfulness test for serialize() bake contract (WS-F)
Adds session.render-faithful.test.ts with 8 assertions covering the full
op batch (setStyle + setText + setTiming + addGsapTween + moveElement).
Confirms serialize() emits fully override-baked, render-ready HTML — this
is the SDK-side guarantee that the backend render input needs no separate
override-set field. Also asserts GSAP <script> edits and data-composition-
variables survive serialization unchanged.
Decision recorded: no SDK bake helper. session.serialize() IS the bake.
Content-address → zip → S3 upload → pointer-swap is host/backend (WS-P/WS-R).

* test(sdk): close the two false-positive slots in the bake-contract assertions
`toContain('data-end="5"')` in the setTiming case and `toContain('data-y="50"')`
in the full-batch case both match a DIFFERENT element in the fixture —
hf-title already ends at 5, hf-box already sits at y=50 — so either assertion
would still pass if its write regressed to a no-op. Paired each with the
disappearance of the target element's own pre-mutation value, which is the
pattern the setText case already uses.
* test(sdk): assert the canonical data-duration timing shape, not legacy data-end
The false-positive slot was hiding a real behaviour change. `setTiming` now
routes through the parsers' `writeClipTiming`, which canonicalizes timing onto
`data-start` + `data-duration` and REMOVES the legacy `data-end`. The
full-batch case asserted `data-end="4.5"` and failed once rebased onto main;
the standalone case asserted `data-end="5"` and passed only because hf-title
carries that exact value in the fixture — the very collision this pass set out
to close.
Both now assert the start/duration pair and the disappearance of the target's
own legacy end.

A host layering a transparent composition over other content has to know

Add PreviewAdapter.paintsAt, plus the pieces it is built from on a new

its own walk.
The walk is geometric rather than elementsFromPoint-based: that stack omits
pointer-events:none nodes, and a decorative overlay carrying it still paints,
so a z-stack query would report no ink over visible artwork — the direction
that makes a composition vanish from under the cursor.
fullBleedFraction is an option rather than a constant because "a layer covering
the whole frame is background, not artwork" is host policy, not a fact about
the composition.
* fix(sdk): scope the full-bleed frame to the root under the point
compositionFrameArea took the smallest [data-composition-id] in the whole
document, so an unrelated sub-composition sized the reference frame for points
nowhere near it: a 300x300 badge in a corner made every mid-size painter in a
1920x1080 outer frame read as full-bleed, and the composition went
click-through under artwork the user can plainly see. That is the direction the
fail-safe exists to avoid, and the docs already described the intended
behaviour — the innermost root CONTAINING the point.
Also read the alpha channel instead of matching known transparent spellings.
Only the `transparent` keyword computes to rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); a faded-out white
stays rgba(255, 255, 255, 0), which the set counted as painted. That erred
toward absorbing clicks rather than losing them, so it was a false positive
rather than a hazard, but it is wrong.
Both are pinned by tests that fail when the fix is reverted.
* fix(sdk): stop the paint query answering "no ink" over visible artwork
Four cases where the walk landed on the wrong side of its own fail-safe.
The full-bleed veto tested the winner's border-box area even when the alpha
sampler had just read an opaque pixel there, so a full-frame transparent PNG or
SVG overlay — the case this feature exists for — reported background over
visibly opaque artwork, with no fullBleedFraction that worked. Ink now carries
how it was established, and a measured pixel is never vetoed. An image whose
pixels could NOT be read stays inferred, so a tainted CDN overlay still yields
to the veto rather than absorbing every click.
Composition roots were excluded from candidacy outright, so a root carrying a
background answered false even at fraction 0, where the docs promise every
painting box counts. Roots are candidates now; the veto discounts them without
a special case, since a root's box is the frame.
An <img> with a clear pixel early-returned past its own background, padding
plate and border, which any other element would have counted.
A same-origin iframe mid-navigation exposes a readable but empty document, so
the !doc guard never fired and a loading composition answered a confident
"no ink" — the exact failure the null convention exists to prevent.
Also: the sort comparator's epsilon tie was intransitive, leaving the
smallest-first guarantee (and the lazy single-sample property that rides on it)
engine-dependent; the guide's pass-through recipe called a function that does
not exist and hand-waved the coordinate mapping that makes it correct; and the
reference now states the under-counts alongside the over-counts, the walk's
blindness to runtime-mounted content, and compositionPaintsAt's preconditions.
Each fix is pinned by a test that fails when the fix is reverted.
* refactor(sdk)!: invert the paint query to isProvablyEmptyAt
paintsAt handed callers three falsy bottom values with opposite safe readings:
false meant "no ink, pass the click through", null meant "not knowable, treat as
painted", and undefined from an adapter without the method also meant painted.
The idiomatic `if (!preview.paintsAt?.(x, y)) passThrough()` therefore did the
dangerous thing for two of the three, and the convention needed defending in the
interface docstring, the reference and the guide — plus a dedicated comment and
a pinning test on the headless adapter to stop null regressing to false.
Inverting the polarity collapses the tri-state to a plain boolean and makes the
safe reading structural: true only when the composition was readable and nothing
painted there, so ink, an unreadable or still-loading document, and a missing
implementation all land on "keep the composition clickable". The prose stays as
rationale, but nothing depends on a reader remembering it.
PaintsAtOptions becomes PaintQueryOptions, since it now describes the walk that
both the adapter method and the exported compositionPaintsAt share rather than
one method's arguments. compositionPaintsAt keeps its ink-positive name: it
answers the other question, and its docstring points callers who need the
fail-safe contract at the adapter.
Nothing is released yet, so no consumer is on the old name.
- edit-operations: dispatch() does not consult can() (session.ts:608 -> applyOp
with no validation; a no-timeline addGsapTween/addLabel is a no-op but a missing
target still writes via selector fallback). Use Rames's wording: call can() first
and skip on failure — no false 'applies nothing' guarantee.
- timing-and-animation: the second E_NO_GSAP_TIMELINE site — gated setGsapTween on
an error it cannot return and called shipped parser code 'a later phase'. Rewrote
to gate addGsapTween (which can return it); dropped the stale can() comment in
types.ts:595.
- html-schema: data-playback-start is read by runtime, Studio and CLI (Studio also
writes it, timelineEditingHelpers.ts); only the compile path is media-start only.
Document the layered precedence instead of calling it runtime-only.
Round-2 findings from Magi (#2/#3/#4) and Rames.
A `<br>` is a void element but `resolveSingleChildTextTarget` treated a lone
`<br>` child as the element's text target. So `getOwnText(<h1>A<br>B</h1>)`
read the `<br>`'s (empty) textContent → `text: null`, which consumers surface
as "not editable", and `setOwnText` wrote into the `<br>`, corrupting it
(serialized as invalid `</br>`).
Exclude void elements from the single-child text target; read `<br>` as "\n";
and rebuild the text/`<br>` run from the newline-separated value on write,
reusing existing `<br>` nodes so their identity (data-hf-id) survives an
in-place edit.
- Script-mirror filter changed from an exact "/script/gsap" match to
path.startsWith("/script/") — the documented contract is "never mirror
script-tag rewrites," not just today's one known path; startsWith covers
any future script-kind patch under the same intent.
- _syncDetach is now cleared when the caller invokes the returned detach
function directly, not only on the next attachSync call — avoids holding
a stale (already-unsubscribed) reference between an explicit detach() and
a later attachSync(other).
- The initial applyOverrideSet call is now wrapped in try/catch: a bad
initial snapshot no longer prevents the ongoing patch subscription from
attaching, matching the SDK's existing swallow-and-warn precedent for
silent-failure paths (adapters/iframe.ts's tainted-canvas warning).
- Added a test proving declareVariable/removeVariable (the /variable-decls/
patches PR #2098 introduces) mirror onto the live document's
data-composition-variables attribute — the existing suite only covered
setVariableValue's CSS-custom-property path, not the schema-metadata path.
setVariableValue is the headline case the sync spec was built for and
had no coverage; setTiming (data-start/data-end mirroring) was also
untested. Both regression-checked by temporarily breaking the
underlying mutate/apply-patches code paths and confirming the new
assertions fail.
Adds attachSync(comp) to PreviewAdapter/IframePreviewAdapter — does an
immediate full sync via the existing applyOverrideSet, then subscribes to
comp.on('patch', ...) and replays every future patch (forward or inverse —
undo/redo included) via the existing applyPatchesToDocument, pointed at the
iframe's live document instead of the offscreen linkedom one. No new
mutation logic; both functions already work against any
{document, wrapped, stamped}-shaped object.
Also adds a no-op attachSync stub to HeadlessPreviewAdapter, required to
keep it satisfying the widened PreviewAdapter interface.
Closes the gap that made pacific's canvas-react hand-roll its own
override-application code (applyOverrideToIframe.ts) with two separate
mechanisms (diffing for normal edits, verbatim op-replay for undo/redo) —
subscribing to the patch stream directly needs only one.
- validateOp now handles declareVariable/removeVariable (E_NO_ROOT when no
composition root), matching setVariableValue's existing case — previously
comp.can() returned E_UNKNOWN_OP for both.
- removeVariable's undo-inverse now tags its {decl, index} reinsert payload
with __kind: "reinsert" instead of relying on structural "decl"/"index"
key presence to disambiguate it from a plain declareVariable patch.
VariableDecl has an open index signature, so a real variable schema could
legally declare its own "decl"/"index" fields and be misinterpreted by the
old structural check; a regression test pins the exact collision.
- getVariableValue's return type tightened from `unknown` to
`string | number | boolean | FontValue | ImageValue | undefined`, matching
setVariableValue's parameter type for round-trip symmetry. The underlying
unknown-typed read is cast once at this SDK boundary.
- Added a redo test for declareVariable/removeVariable (existing tests only
covered undo).
Closes the remaining Tier 2/3 gaps from the SDK surface audit that motivated
#2092 — real, contained fixes short of the two genuinely architectural items
(a live-DOM apply adapter, structural editing ops) that need their own design
pass, not a quick patch.
Variable CRUD was write-only and creation-blocked: setVariableValue existed,
but there was no getVariableValue, listVariables, declareVariable, or
removeVariable — and writeVariableDefault intentionally refuses to create an
undeclared variable ("keep the schema authoritative"), so a variables panel
(list what exists, read current values, let someone add one) could not be
built against the SDK at all.
- getVariableValue(id) / listVariables(): thin reads over the existing
readVariableDefault / a new listVariableDecls.
- declareVariable(decl) / removeVariable(id): new EditOps with full
undo/redo support via a new patch path (/variable-decls/{id}, distinct
from /variables/{id} which is default-only) — removeVariable's inverse
bundles the original array index so undo reinserts at the same position
instead of appending, mirroring handleRemoveElement's siblingIndex.
Export gaps (same shape as #2092's fixes — the logic already existed,
just wasn't reachable): resolveScoped, findById, escapeHfId from
engine/model.ts; readVariableDefault from engine/variableModel.ts.
17 new tests across mutate.test.ts (declareVariable/removeVariable engine
semantics + undo), session.test.ts (Composition-level API), and smoke.test.ts
(export-surface import check). 439/439 sdk tests passing. Full workspace
build (incl. studio) verified clean.
Blocker (flagged by all three reviewers, still open after the CI fix):
- Composition.serialize() interface in types.ts never got the { stripRuntime? }
param the implementation already accepts, so a consumer holding a
Composition-typed ref (exactly pacific's case) got a strict-TS arity error
calling comp.serialize({ stripRuntime: true }). Widened the interface.
Also addresses:
- getRootElements() now cached like elementsCache (same 3 invalidation sites) —
cheap insurance if a layer panel calls it every render tick.
- getElementTimings' resolver now uses the already-parsed expr.value for the
absolute-number case instead of silently re-parsing via parseFloat, via a
small resolveReferenceStart helper split out to keep resolveStart's own
branching low.
- bareId's `?? scopedId` fallback gets a comment: it's unreachable at runtime
(split() always returns >=1 element) but required by noUncheckedIndexedAccess.
- serialize({ stripRuntime }) docblock generalized past "the editing iframe" —
it's for any host driving its own clock.
- Documented (and pinned with a test) the bare-id reference resolution's
cross-scope behavior: a sub-composition element referencing a colliding bare
id resolves to the canonical top-level match, same as the runtime's own
resolver — consistent, but a real authoring footgun worth calling out.
- New tests: chained (A->B->C) references, a direct self-reference cycle, a
mutual A<->B cycle, the cross-scope bare-id collision above, and an import
assertion that RUNTIME_BOOTSTRAP_ATTR is actually reachable from
@hyperframes/core and matches the marker generators stamp.
422/422 sdk tests passing (417 + 5 new). Full workspace build (incl. studio)
verified clean.
Closes gaps surfaced by pacific#30298 (hyperframes layer panel), where consumer
code had to hand-roll fixes for things the SDK/core already solve or nearly solve:
- getRootElements(): getElements() flattens the tree, so every descendant also
appears as its own top-level entry. buildRoots() already computes true roots
internally; this exposes it directly instead of making consumers re-derive
roots by filtering out descendant ids.
- Export isNewHostBoundary + bareId from @hyperframes/sdk: both already existed
internally (engine/model.ts) but weren't exported, so consumers were
duplicating sub-composition-boundary detection and scoped-id-to-DOM-leaf
conversion by hand.
- Export stripEmbeddedRuntimeScripts + RUNTIME_BOOTSTRAP_ATTR from
@hyperframes/core, and wire serialize({ stripRuntime: true }) on the SDK
session: a proper tokenizing implementation already existed in
compiler/htmlDocument.ts (handles more runtime-script marker variants than a
naive regex), just never exported. The SDK itself imports these via narrow
subpaths (./runtime/start-expression, ./compiler/html-document) rather than
the wide ./compiler barrel, matching the SDK's existing import convention and
avoiding pulling Node-only compiler code (fs/path) into browser bundles.
- Fix getElementTimings(): data-start can be a relative-reference expression
("intro", "intro + 2" — see parseStartExpression's grammar), not just an
absolute number. The old code did a raw parseFloat() on it, which silently
resolved any reference expression to 0. Now resolves references recursively
against the target element's own resolved start + duration, Node-safe (no
live GSAP timeline needed for this case).
14 new tests (session.timings.test.ts, session.subcomp.test.ts). Full sdk
suite: 417/417 passing. Full workspace build (incl. studio) verified clean.
* fix(parsers,sdk,studio-server,studio): unify hf-id space across preview, disk, and SDK session
Root-causes the setTiming element_not_found resolver-shadow divergence class:
timeline edits carry hf-ids read from the live preview DOM, but the preview
minted ids AFTER rewriting attributes (and never persisted them for sub-comps),
while the SDK session mints from the raw file — content-keyed minting then
yields different ids for the same element. Template-based comps were worse:
the SDK excluded the whole <template> subtree, so the session had zero
elements and every edit diverged.
- parsers: ensureHfIds now descends into <template> subtrees (linkedom's
querySelectorAll does not), minting and pinning inner ids
- sdk: buildRoots/buildElement treat <template> as a transparent container,
and resolution (resolveScoped, animation-id map) searches template subtrees
via querySelectorAllDeep — template comps now model, resolve, and edit
- studio-server: the sub-comp preview route persists hf-ids to the raw file
BEFORE the rewrite pipeline (mirrors the main route), pinning one id space
across served DOM, disk, and SDK session
- studio: resolver-shadow skips structurally-empty sessions (no event, no
attempt) and tags fail-open emissions with sourceReadFailed so read errors
are distinguishable from unwired readers in telemetry

* fix(parsers,sdk,studio-server,studio): scope template descent, guard persist route
Addresses the 10 verified findings from the PR #1981 review:
- Restrict template transparency to COMPOSITION templates
(<template data-composition-id>) everywhere — ensureHfIds, SDK
buildChildren, querySelectorAllDeep. A plain <template> (runtime
clone-source) keeps its old fully-excluded behavior: stamping its
interior would duplicate one persisted id across every runtime clone,
and modeling it would show phantom timeline clips.
- Guard the sub-comp persist: only .html files (the wildcard route can
serve any project path — stamping an SVG corrupted it on disk),
try/catch the read (file-removed race becomes 404, not 500), salt the
etag (v2) so pre-fix cached clients don't 304 past the id pin, and
thread the stamped content into buildSubCompositionHtml so served ids
match the mint even when the disk write is skipped.
- Rewrite querySelectorAllDeep as a document-order DOM walk — appending
template matches after top-level matches made duplicate-id tiebreaks
disagree with the preview's unwrapped DOM (wrong-element edits).
- Recurse sourceMutation.querySelectorAllWithTemplates so server-side
ops resolve ids at any template depth, matching SDK resolution.
- Replace the empty-session silent skip with ONE tagged session_empty
event per session — silence would blind the tripwire to exactly the
modeling-gap class that exposed the template bug. Attempts stay
uncounted (an unmodelable comp can't cut over).

* fix(studio-server): close TOCTOU in sub-comp hf-id persist (CodeQL js/file-system-race)
Replace the route-level stat/read/persist sequence with stampFileHfIds:
validation (fstat), read, mint, and write-back all go through ONE open
file descriptor (O_NOFOLLOW where supported), so the path cannot be
swapped between validation and write. Falls back to read-only stamping
when the file isn't writable — content-keyed minting means the SDK
derives the same ids from the same bytes even without the disk write.
Addresses miguel-heygen's blocking review on PR #1981.

* fix(studio-server): linear-time template-attr match (CodeQL js/polynomial-redos)
promoteTemplateCompositionId's single-pattern regex backtracked
polynomially on crafted input. Two-step match: grab each <template>
open tag linearly, then find data-composition-id within that short
tag text. Same semantics (first template carrying the attr wins).

recordAnimationResolverParity reported a false animation_not_found divergence
for any tween whose selector doesn't currently CSS-match a live DOM element,
because it only checked el.animationIds (DOM-gated). The real server-side op
it shadows resolves purely from the parsed script. Adds
Composition.getAllAnimationIds() as a DOM-independent id set and checks it
too, matching the server's actual resolution behavior.
* fix(sdk): moveElement survives GSAP animation per-axis via runtime delta translate
A committed moveElement wrote data-x/data-y but nothing rendered them:
hosts shimmed CSS translate, which GSAP folds into the cached transform
at first parse and then discards on the animated axis at every seek —
dragging an animated element kept only the un-animated axis.
Spike-proven on GSAP 3.15: a translate set AFTER GSAP's first parse is
never read, folded, or cleared across seeks and composes natively with
the animated transform. So:
- moveElement captures the pre-edit baseline once (data-hf-edit-base-x/y)
- the runtime (new core runtime/positionEdits.ts, applied at timeline
bind — after GSAP parse) renders translate = (data-x − base), a pure
delta that composes with GSAP tweens, tl.set positions, and CSS alike
- applyDraft now drives the drag preview through the same translate
channel (the --hf-studio-dx/dy vars had no consumer outside authored
Studio bridges), and commitPreview mirrors the committed move onto
the live element so it holds without an srcdoc reload
Acceptance: packages/engine/scripts/test-runtime-position-edits-browser.ts
(real Chrome + GSAP + runtime IIFE, no Studio shell) — X-animated,
Y-animated, and static elements hold both edited axes across the full
seek range. New subpath export @hyperframes/core/runtime/position-edits.
Known limitation (documented): a tween created lazily at runtime that
first-parses a marked element after apply folds the edit.

* fix(sdk): harden position-edit rendering and the drag draft channel
Fixes six issues from adversarial review of the moveElement stack:
- Runtime: apply position edits at init as well as at timeline bind, so
committed moves render in compositions with no usable GSAP timeline
(CSS/WAAPI-animated or fully static) — previously the apply was
unreachable outside the boundDuration > 0 bind branch and the edit
silently vanished from reloads and renders.
- Runtime: guard bind-path re-apply against post-fold double-apply — if
the previously written translate was consumed externally (a lazily
created tween folding it into GSAP's cached transform), skip instead
of re-setting it on top ({force} escape hatch for editor commits).
- Adapter: stop writing the --hf-studio-dx/dy custom properties during
drags — compositions with the documented var-consuming drag-bridge
CSS moved by twice the pointer delta (var transform + new inline
translate). The inline translate is now the only draft channel;
deltas accumulate in adapter fields. Docs updated to match.
- Adapter: switching applyDraft to a new id reverts the abandoned
element's draft translate instead of leaving it displaced with no op.
- Adapter: cancelPreview restores the raw inline translate (removing it
when there was none), so a stylesheet-authored translate is never
promoted to a permanent inline style.
- Adapter: commitPreview reverts the draft and clears state when
dispatch throws, instead of leaving the element shifted by an
uncommitted draft.
Cleanups: reuse readCurrentTranslate from the core module (was a
verbatim copy), drop the dead __hfApplyPositionEdits window hook.
Browser acceptance test now also covers the GSAP-free composition path.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix(core): prime GSAP transform cache before position-edit apply; add fold-loss telemetry
Addresses PR #1875 review feedback (Rames, Miga):
- Prime the element's GSAP transform parse (gsap.getProperty) before the
first translate apply — positioned tl.set()s and tweens that first
RENDER after the apply now reuse the cache instead of folding the edit.
This closes the lazy-first-parse fold-loss for any page where GSAP is
loaded at apply time; the residual limitation is GSAP itself loading
after the apply. Proven by the extended browser acceptance test.
- Emit position_edit_fold_skipped analytics at the fold-guard skip site
so the residual degradation is observable instead of silent.
- Browser acceptance test: add a both-axis-animated element (the shape
that originated the per-axis loss) and a positioned tl.set() element,
asserted across the full seek range.
- Simplify the num() null guard (review nit).
