Make hasMediaVectors private because it has no external callers and needs no Fallow suppression. * fix(cli): close media-use review gaps Prioritize literal ids before stemmed ids and cover the collision alongside the plural regression. Add command seam tests for engine discovery, actionable failure, and argv passthrough. Add a deterministic parity check for standalone media-use copies, with documented allowlists for the standalone media-fetch shim and self-contained npx resolver. Keep the bash-discovered skills test list as the CI source of truth. * fix(cli): lower parity check complexity Split missing-copy and unallowlisted-drift checks so the parity guard keeps its behavior without a threshold CRAP score. * fix(cli): close media-use review seams Run the parity test in the skills job so skills-only edits exercise the same check. Export the verb mapping and inject command dispatch for direct coverage. Keep missing-copy diagnostics separate from drift reads. |

fix(studio): report a rejected read as a network reason, not an open failure (#4240)
* fix(studio): report a rejected read as a network reason, not an open failure `stage: "open"` is documented as `openComposition` threw — an unparseable composition, or OOM. Every event in that bucket on 0.8.56 and 0.8.57 carries a fetch-rejection message instead: "Failed to fetch" (28 users / 11 users), "Load failed", "NetworkError when attempting to fetch resource.". The cause is one missing catch. `readProjectFileOptional` awaits `fetch` with no try/catch, so a rejected request escapes the function and is caught by the effect's outer `.catch` — the handler written for `openComposition`. The read path has a five-member reason union precisely so this class of failure is diagnosable, and the one case that never produces a response was the case outside it. That made the largest SDK-session failure class in Studio (2.9% of session users on 0.8.56, 2.3% on 0.8.57) unaddressable: you cannot fix a network failure while it is reported as a composition that failed to parse. Now `readProjectFileOptional` catches its own rejection and returns `reason: "network"`, so it lands in `stage: read` with everything else, and `stage: open` means only what its comment says. Telemetry only. Nothing branches on the stage and no user-facing behaviour changes. Fifth split of this shape, after `ineligible_operation` (v0.8.49), `stage: read` (v0.8.51) and `block_detail` (#4214). Co-Authored-By: Claude Code <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(docs): point the catalog tab-row test at the page gutter #4238 moved the inset to `catalog-detail.test.ts` asserted the exact strings that #4238 deleted: `.hf-ve-tabs-row { margin: 20px 0 0 16px; }` and `.hf-ve-body { padding: 2rem 0 0 16px; }`. That PR removed both insets deliberately — its own comment says "the page gutter is the page's job, and a second 16px here put everything below the stage on a different left edge from the title, install block and stage above it" — and restored the gutter on `#content-area` in `docs/custom.css` instead. The test was left asserting the old mechanism, so main has been red on it since, unnoticed because the `Test` workflow does not run for a docs-only change. The invariant did not change: this content is still inset from the page edge. Only the mechanism did, so the test now asserts both halves of it — the two rules carry no inset of their own, and the gutter standing in for them is still present, at both its values. Asserting only the first would keep passing if the gutter were deleted outright, which is the regression the test exists to catch; both mutations were checked and both fail. fix(release): a stale local tag can no longer silently widen the changelog (#4208)
* fix(release): a stale local tag can no longer silently widen the changelog `release:prepare` creates `vX.Y.Z` locally at the branch commit, then the publish workflow creates the same tag at the merge SHA. After a squash merge those are different commits and the local one is not an ancestor of main, so `git describe` cannot reach it and falls back to the previous release without saying so. `git fetch --tags` does not help: it refuses to move a tag that already exists locally, and only `--force` does. On the v0.8.52 cut this produced a `v0.8.50...v0.8.52` draft that re-listed about a hundred already-shipped commits. The changelog is user-facing, and nothing in the output said the baseline was wrong. Adds a guard in the drafter: after resolving the baseline, fail if a stable tag exists locally that sits strictly between it and the release. `describe` only ever returns a reachable tag, so a tag in that range is proof it skipped one. The message names the tags and prints `git fetch origin --tags --force`. `--from` still overrides, for a deliberate baseline. Also prints the captures-gate hatch with the release PR instructions. Every release bumps packages/studio and packages/player, which scripts/check-pr-captures.mjs watches, so it demands before/after media for a version bump; its own `## No visible change` section is the intended answer and applies to a 4-line package.json diff. Verified end to end by moving a local tag onto the pre-squash commit of v0.8.51: the drafter fails with the fix, and drafts normally once restored. Six mutants of the range check are all caught by the tests. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * refactor(release): guard the baseline inside its resolver `resolvePreviousTag` only runs when `--from` was not supplied, so testing `!options.from` at the call site repeated a condition the `??` already expressed. Folding the guard into the resolver drops that branch, which had pushed `createDraft` to a CRAP score of exactly 30.0 and failed the audit. The assert sits outside the try/catch on purpose: `fail` exits rather than throwing today, and this keeps a catch from ever swallowing the guard if that changes. feat(studio): all panels move onto the dockable, persisted layout (#4192)
* feat(studio): every Studio panel is a dock panel and the shell moves onto it
EditorShell, App.tsx, the left and right panel columns, and the
inspector hooks now render through Dock.Panel instead of the old
fixed-width sidebars and split-pane inspector. usePanelLayout becomes
a thin facade over the dock store; fitPanels, the resize divider and
the split-inspector hook are dead and removed.
* refactor(studio): drop dead inspector flags and stale fallow entries after dock migration
Collapse inspectorButtonActive into inspectorPanelActive, remove unread
layers/design active fields, un-export unused prop types, flatten a nested
ternary, and point fallow ignores at the renamed/deleted files.
* fix(studio): keep right-panel behaviours the dock migration dropped
Block params dismiss on selection or when Design is hidden, the slideshow
panel can be closed, the selection outline follows the inspector intent,
caption editing focuses Design, and a URL slideshow tab opens once the
panel exists.
* refactor(studio): name the inspector-open state once in the header
* fix(studio): right-panel behaviours survive selection, restore and reopen after the dock migration
Block params stay open over an element that was already selected, caption mode wins over block params, the slideshow panel waits for the dock, the Renders tab title survives a reopen, each side column remembers the tab it last showed, tab switches are reported only when the tab changes, and the e2e thumbnail selector follows the dock.
* docs(studio): describe the dock layout and point comments at the renamed right panels
* fix(studio): block params survive a preview reload of the selected element, and panel titles are covered
The dismissal compares the selected element by its target key instead of object identity, because a preview reload rebuilds the selection for the same element. A closed and reopened panel keeps its custom title, with a test, and the e2e selector is formatted.
* fix(studio): block params leave with any other tab pick, and a restored slideshow placement survives loading
Block params are now dismissed by the tab setter the way their old tab was, including a re-pick of the same element, instead of by comparing selections. The slideshow panel is only closed after a file that was a slideshow stops being one, so a restored layout is not discarded while the file loads.
* refactor(studio): drop the duplicate inspector-open computation
The rebase onto main left two identical inspectorButtonActive/inspectorOpen
constants after a conflict resolution; only the first was still referenced.
* chore(studio): allow the dock migration deletions in the guard
StudioLeftSidebar.tsx, LeftSidebar.tsx and its storage test,
TimelineResizeDivider.tsx, useInspectorSplitResize.ts and fitPanels
are replaced by the dock; the CI deletion guard needs each named
with its reason.
* style(studio): oxfmt the deletion-guard entries
* fix(studio): rename Timeline's aria-label so it does not collide with its dock panel wrapper
Every dock panel wrapper now carries aria-label=<title>, matching the "Timeline"
title for the timeline panel. Timeline.tsx also set aria-label="Timeline" on its
own content div, so `document.querySelector('[aria-label=\"Timeline\"]')` found
the dock wrapper first and the timeline viewport gate CI check timed out waiting
for an attribute the real content div actually carried. Renamed to "Timeline
track view" and updated every consumer: the production diagnostics selector,
its tests, and the e2e viewport-gate script.
* fix(studio): restore inspectorButtonActive as a real prop after a rebase regression
Rebasing PR2 onto main replayed an older local commit whose diff did not
textually overlap main's newer inspectorButtonActive prop, so git applied
it with no conflict marker and silently reverted the header to computing
the value itself instead of receiving it. StudioHeader.dom.test.tsx already
asserts the prop is respected; restoring it makes that test meaningful
again. App.tsx now computes it once (panelLayout.rightCollapsed is already
the dock's effective collapse state, no separate railed-by-width case) and
passes it down.
* chore(studio): wrap a long doc comment in useRightPanelIntents

feat(catalog): add the seven 3D-motion pieces as installable registry blocks (#4056)
* feat(catalog): add the seven 3D-motion pieces as installable registry blocks Each piece ships as a registry block with a CDN poster and preview, a live catalog detail page and its source. Scripts travel inside the catalog payload (shared vendor libraries fetched once, item scripts inline, the one HDR as a data URI) because the docs host only serves fonts, images and JSON. NO_ESSAY_COMMENTS_OK: the long comment blocks are in vendored libraries and the ported frost source under registry/blocks, not hand-written here. HF_MAX_NONLFS_KB=6000: four hosted texture PNGs under docs/public/catalog/items are runtime assets the docs host must serve as files. fallow skipped locally: it audits against origin/main and this branch is stacked on an older main. * chore(catalog): regenerate gallery data and nav after rebasing onto main * fix(catalog): read the install manifest through the bounded project reader * fix(catalog): a script the inliner missed fails the payload instead of shipping a dead URL * refactor(catalog): the leftover-script check reuses the reference finder * fix(catalog): frost and glass textures load from the CDN and the iteration presets are gone * chore(catalog): regenerate the frost and glass payloads and nav * fix(catalog): frost and glass textures are hosted through the registry url field, not hardcoded * chore(catalog): regenerate the frost and glass payloads against the hosted texture URLs * fix(catalog): the hosted-reference rewrite refuses a bare name it cannot safely replace * ci(catalog): verify changed catalog payloads in headless Chrome and check the docs catalog * feat(catalog): every item page follows the shared layout with a Tune panel and tabs * fix(catalog): let the texture-mask item host its masks so its tile plays live * chore(catalog): regenerate item pages, gallery data and the texture-mask payload * chore(catalog): regenerate item pages after merging main * fix(catalog): declared-only variables get the Tune panel, Code and Docs tabs capped * feat(catalog): give the blend-difference caption a demo scene so its tile plays live * chore(catalog): live payload for the blend-difference caption * perf(catalog): heavy 3d pieces compile and draw before ready, not on the first visible frame * feat(catalog): the avatar promo card hosts its videos, audio and fonts on the CDN * feat(catalog): the avatar promo card tile plays live from its CDN-hosted media * chore(catalog): the avatar promo card plays live, no allowlist left * chore(catalog): shorten two comment blocks * chore(catalog): trim first-party comment blocks to the comment-check limits * chore(catalog): shorten two frost source comments * fix(catalog): the Docs tab renders as prose again, and the detail page honours reduced motion Frame-mode pages carry no prose wrapper, and the detail component sat inside not-prose, so the Docs slot's headings, paragraphs, links and lists had no styling at all. The slots now carry their own prose classes and the chrome around them keeps not-prose. The recorded clip also gets the reduced-motion guard the docs-snippet check requires, and the generator reads stability from the source metadata type so the scripts typecheck passes. * fix(catalog): docs-tab paragraphs render as blocks Mintlify emits paragraphs as inline spans, so two paragraphs in the Docs slot ran together. * fix(ci): drop the duplicate docs_catalog job output git's line-based auto-merge silently duplicated the outputs key when main and this branch each added it on non-adjacent lines during the rebase; oxfmt's yaml parser rejects the repeated map key. * fix(catalog): close four CodeQL alerts in the frost source * chore(catalog): allowlist the avatar-promo-card CDN asset deletions, format sync-docs-catalog check-no-main-deletions.mjs was rejecting 11 local mp4/font files this branch already deleted in favor of CDN hosting; scripts/sync-docs-catalog.mjs had one line over the 100-col print width from an earlier edit in this branch. * fix(catalog): detail tabs use docs prose spacing, Install first; previews skip no-WebGPU runners * fix(catalog): the docs tab scrolls with the page instead of a capped inner box * refactor(catalog): split the payload asset and verify scripts into single-purpose helpers * refactor(catalog): split the preview generator into single-purpose helpers * ci(catalog): fail when the committed catalog differs from generator output The docs host serves the committed catalog and nothing regenerates it, so a stale copy shipped silently. The catalog payloads job now generates into a temp dir and compares it with the committed tree. * chore(catalog): regenerate docs/public/catalog with the refactored scripts One full regeneration from an empty output tree with the current scripts. The tree grows from 58.4 MB to 65.1 MB. Two hosted assets are about 2 MB each (an avatar png and a wav); the same bytes are already committed under assets/, so HF_MAX_NONLFS_KB is raised for this commit only. * fix(catalog): run the catalog script tests under the runner they are written for The rebase put three node:test files in the vitest half of test:scripts, where they report "No test suite found". They now sit in the node --test list. * fix(catalog): a WebGPU item without an adapter shows its recorded clip and says why * ci(catalog): the drift check runs from a committed fetch mirror with no network Generation now serves every font and CDN script fetch from scripts/catalog-fetch-mirror and fails when a fetch is not in it, even if the caller swallowed the error. CATALOG_FETCH_MIRROR=record refreshes the mirror from the live network. The docs_catalog filter also watches packages/core, packages/producer and the mirror, and the 13 re-hashed font files are listed in ALLOWED_DELETIONS. * chore(catalog): clean up the temp font cache and sort the mirror index without a locale * fix(catalog): hide Tune when the clip stands in, time out the adapter request, share one check * fix(catalog): the adapter probe survives a sync throw and a hang; test the clip guard * fix(catalog): keep the adapter probe inside the component, Mintlify evaluates only exports * fix(catalog): run the detail and page generator tests in CI; no Tune flash while probing WebGPU * docs(catalog): credit vendored libraries and make each SKILL.md list what the block installs CREDITS.md names every vendored dependency with its upstream and licence, and flags the two leaf textures whose origin is still to be confirmed. Each SKILL.md Files table now comes from the block manifest and its install and render paths point at compositions/<name>/. A test checks that every path a SKILL.md names is a manifest file that exists. * fix(catalog): a declared WebGPU item passes verify by its manifest tag, not by console wording verify-catalog-payloads forgave a missing adapter only by matching the markup and the message, which library-reported errors and widgets never satisfy. The webgpu tag in the item manifest is now the owner: a tagged item ignores its page and console errors, an untagged one gets no forgiveness, and a marker payload with no html is listed instead of crashing the run. * docs(catalog): correct the credits per block and guard the mount and render paths CREDITS.md states the three.js version and vendored-or-CDN status per block, adds d3-delaunay, Clipper on the CDN and the Google Fonts loads, and lists every texture with no known origin. The SKILL.md test now also checks the mount and render paths against the manifest composition. * test(catalog): read each block manifest once in the SKILL.md file test The two checks shared a copied manifest read, which fallow flagged as a clone with a high score. * fix(catalog): commit the hosted item files a gitignore rule kept out, and check git not the disk The compositions/ and *-ad/ ignore rules matched folder names under docs/public/catalog/items, so 33 hosted fonts, textures and marks were generated but never committed and would 404 on the docs host. The rules now have a negation for that tree and the files are added. The drift check read the checkout, where git-ignored files still exist, so it passed locally and failed only in CI. It now unpacks HEAD with git archive and compares that. * fix(catalog): a tile keeps its poster until the composition has painted * fix(catalog): a tagged WebGPU item forgives only the adapter-absent error, and test the wiring The manifest webgpu tag now decides whether an item may lack an adapter, and the error wording decides which lines are that absence. Any other page or console error on the item, and every failed request, still fails. The per-item decision is one exported function the tests drive, marker payloads are parsed by a tested helper, and the SKILL.md variable counts are checked against their tables (cuboid-carousel said forty-nine for forty). * fix(catalog): the pinned group's posters load eagerly at high priority * fix(catalog): type the tile reveal test so the scripts typecheck passes * fix(catalog): stop the adapter signature matching an unrelated failed adapter request failed to request .*adapter also matched errors about other adapters. It now matches only a request for the WebGPU adapter, so a tagged item cannot hide an unrelated failure behind it. * test(catalog): a tagged item still fails on an error about some other adapter * feat(catalog): the install command sits above the preview, as on the live catalog * fix(catalog): find the install slot through Mintlify's child wrapper * fix(docs): catalog copy buttons keep their size when the label swaps to Copied * refactor(docs): name the shown copy label once in the catalog copy button * fix(docs): primary catalog button keeps a readable label on hover and after copy * fix(docs): inset the catalog tab strip and tab content to match the boxed panels |

feat(studio): header and inspector tabs on the shared primitives (#3624)
* feat(studio): header and inspector tabs on the shared primitives The header's view-mode toggle and the inspector's tab strip become real Tabs, so both gain the roving tabindex, arrow keys and Home/End they never had; undo, redo and Inspector become IconButton and Button; Export becomes the primary Button at the medium size. Capture stays an <a download>, wearing Button's recipe, because a button cannot save a file. Colour literals in StudioHeader.tsx drop to zero: the brand gradient moves into theme.css as two tokens and the Export's hand-written text colour becomes text-bg-0. Ratchet total 475 to 470. * docs(studio): shorten the header and inspector tab comments to fit the comment gate * chore(studio): bank the lower colour-literal baseline for StudioHeader * fix(studio): arrow keys only move focus when the inspector strip toggles panes * chore(studio): allow deleting PanelTabButton, replaced by the shared Tabs primitive |

feat(scripts): fail a PR whose After capture is a Before capture (#4177)
* feat(scripts): fail a PR whose After capture is a Before capture The captures check now downloads each Before and After asset in the PR body and fails when any After asset has the same content hash as a Before asset, or when an asset cannot be downloaded. A Before clip attached under After passed the old check because it only looked for media, not for what the media was. * refactor(scripts): return the hashed captures directly * fix(scripts): the capture hash check only fetches GitHub attachments The check fetched any URL a PR body named and followed redirects, so a body could make the runner request an internal host. It now downloads only github.com/user-attachments assets and follows redirects only to GitHub and its signed storage. A 429, 5xx or network error is retried with backoff, other statuses fail at once, and unreadable assets and identical assets are reported under separate headings. * fix(scripts): cap capture downloads, match GitHub's asset bucket, pass forks through The redirect allowlist now names GitHub's asset bucket instead of all of amazonaws.com. Each asset and the whole check are capped in bytes while streaming. A fork PR whose capture cannot be downloaded is skipped with a named reason, never failed. * fix(scripts): one download deadline, https only, same link caught before fetching Reviewer findings on the capture hash check: - each asset gets one deadline across its retries - downloads run one at a time so a large asset cannot starve a sibling - a link under both headings is reported without a download - a read error is no longer reported as a download failure - the CLI fork skip and exit code are tested through a preloaded fetch * fix(scripts): a byte-cap refusal blocks even on a fork, retries refund their bytes - our own cap tripping is reported apart from an unreadable download and always fails - a failed attempt gives its bytes back to the shared budget - trailing punctuation and query strings no longer change which asset a link names - more than 12 capture links is refused, and the job timeout is raised to fit * fix(scripts): strip markdown wrappers from capture links, count shared links once The twelve-link limit is tested at its edge. * refactor(scripts): split the capture download code into small functions Fallow scored the download, redirect and reporting functions as untested because the scripts suite runs under node --test. Each function is now small enough to pass without coverage. Links the duplicate check cannot compare are now named: an http attachment link is refused, other media links are listed. * fix(scripts): compare links by identity, name the refusal, pin three behaviours An explicit port or upper-case host no longer reads as an uncomparable link. |

feat(studio): upgrade Studio to Tailwind CSS v4 (#3618)
* chore(studio): upgrade Tailwind CSS to v4 through the Vite plugin Studio moves from Tailwind 3.4 to 4.3.3, loaded by @tailwindcss/vite instead of PostCSS. The JS config becomes an @theme block in studio.css carrying the same studio.* and panel.* colors, with explicit @source globs so the gitignored data/projects tree is never scanned. The official upgrade tool renamed the utilities, but it rewrites bare words inside any string, so its edits to event names, CSS property names, filter function names, status enum values and prose were reverted by hand. Nothing in Studio relied on the v3 default border color, ring width or ring color, so the tool's compatibility shim was dropped rather than kept. * chore(studio): note the duplicated palette between theme css and preset * fix(studio): keep the pointer cursor on buttons after the Tailwind v4 upgrade v4 preflight dropped the pointer cursor on enabled buttons, so add it back in one base rule. docs(skills): one owner doc for everyday edits and a hyperframes-studio skill (#4125)
* docs(skills): one owner doc for everyday edits and a hyperframes-studio skill Agents got contradictory advice on volume fades and were blocked from splits and copies by the Ask-agent guardrails. - creator-editing-recipes.md is the single owner: adds align-to-event, copy-a-group and swap-media recipes and the one volume rule (use the lane) - variables-and-media, data-attributes (skill and CLI copy), the gsap adapter and tracks-and-clips now defer to it - Ask-agent guardrails allow the neighbour edits a split, retime, copy or swap requires and point at the owner doc - new hyperframes-studio skill: sub-compositions for every scene, one caption track, one element kind per track, safe zones - drift test lints every html example in the owner doc with the real linter and fails on any doc teaching a volume tween * refactor(skills): drop unused tween allowlist from recipes drift test * docs(skills): name the track kind attribute in the studio skill * docs(skills): stop claiming lint rules that do not exist yet and fix track numbering Review fixes: - studio skill: drop the severity claim and the preview-overlay claim, group tracks by data-track-kind instead of numeric ranges that clashed with the recipes - recipes: audio data-start is root time only in the root composition; scene-local inside a sub-composition file - guardrails: timeline edits are exempt from the element-only and timing lines; the pointer names the skill reference, not a repo path - montage doc defers to the volume lane; skill count is 21 everywhere - drift test also scans the montage doc * fix(skills): the ducking generator emits a volume lane and captions defer to the studio safe zones - audio-duck.mjs prints a data-automation lane (clip-local times from the target data-start) instead of a timeline volume tween; --json adds the lane - operations.md shows the generated lane; the drift test scans it - embedded-captions safe-zone lines point at the studio skill, which owns the values * chore(skills): regenerate the skills manifest after rebase * docs(skills): remotion translation docs point volume ramps at the automation lane * docs(skills): studio safe zones use the action-safe 90 and title-safe 80 boxes * docs(skills): caption docs defer to the studio safe boxes * chore(skills): regenerate the skills manifest after rebase * fix(skills): studio skill names the safe margins; guardrail test matches the timeline-edit wording |

fix(studio): show where a dragged file will land instead of a drop-to-add box (#4142)
Dragging a file over Studio covered the screen with a "Drop to add at the playhead" box, but a drop lands at the pointer time on the target row. The box is gone; the timeline now draws a landing preview at the exact start and track the drop will use (a new row below the last lane when that is the target), taken from the same placement function the drop commits. |

feat(catalog): browse the catalog as a live grid, not a static index (#4051)
* feat(catalog): browse the catalog as a live grid, not a static index
The Catalog overview page now mounts a browse grid (posters, tags,
per-category rows, expandable sections) generated over the existing
~380 registry items, instead of one static hero video plus two links.
docs/snippets/catalog-gallery.jsx and docs/catalog-gallery.css are
ported from a reference implementation of this same UX; the CSS keeps
its original comments as-is (NO_ESSAY_COMMENTS_OK: vendored file).
scripts/sync-docs-catalog.mjs and build-docs-gallery-nav.mjs are new,
generating the gallery's data and the Catalog tab's nav directly from
this repo's registry/*/registry-item.json and docs.json, so no sparse
clone or snapshot of another project is needed. scripts/check-docs-catalog.mjs
proves every catalog page from before this change still exists, on
disk and in the sidebar, with an identical page list.
No catalog page or snippet is removed; the previous overview content
(catalog-overview-player.jsx) is unused on this page but stays in the
repo.
* refactor(catalog): share the docs-catalog helpers across the sync scripts
Three independent adversarial reviews (reuse, quality, efficiency) all
converged on the same shape: sync-docs-catalog.mjs, build-docs-gallery-nav.mjs
and check-docs-catalog.mjs each hand-wrote the same docs-root resolution,
the same catalog-gallery-data.mdx parse, and the same Catalog-tab lookup.
Extracted into scripts/docs-catalog-shared.mjs.
sync-docs-catalog.mjs also ran build-docs-gallery-nav.mjs as a dynamic
import purely for its side effect, forcing a same-process re-read and
re-parse of the data file it had just written. build-docs-gallery-nav.mjs
now exports buildNav(docs), called directly with the path already
resolved; its CLI entry is guarded for standalone use.
slug() dropped the /^-+|-+$/ trim in favor of the character-scan trim
packages/core/src/tokenSlug.ts already uses for the same reason (CodeQL
flags that regex as polynomial ReDoS, js/polynomial-redos); not imported
directly since tokenSlug.ts is compiled TS with a different domain
(CSS variable naming) and no existing scripts/*.mjs imports packages/core
source at plain node runtime.
Fixed one bug found while re-verifying after the refactor: the recursive
nav walk wasn't idempotent against its own generated output — re-running
sync-docs-catalog.mjs a second time saw the "Catalog" wrapper buildNav()
adds and misattributed every flat, single-section group under it, 9
groups collapsing to 7. walk() now treats "Catalog" as transparent, the
same way it already treated "Overview". Verified: three consecutive runs
from a fresh origin/main checkout now produce identical 9 groups / 400
items each time, and check-docs-catalog.mjs still passes.
* chore(catalog): scrub an internal decision code from a code comment
* fix(catalog): stop losing a section's label when its nav is flattened
An independent adversarial review found real data loss: build-docs-gallery-nav.mjs
collapsed a group with exactly one section into a flat page list (a clean sidebar
for the common case), but sync-docs-catalog.mjs's walk() derives an item's section
from nav depth, so a second sync run over that flattened nav could no longer
recover the section name and silently fell back to the group's own label. Data &
charts / Data was the one real casualty in this catalog; Carousels and Blocks
happened to already have a section named the same as their group, so the loss
was invisible there.
Fix: only flatten when the section label equals the group label, so nothing
non-recoverable is thrown away. Verified with a deliberate mutation (reverted the
condition, reproduced the exact bug from a clean origin/main checkout, confirmed
the new check-docs-catalog.mjs assertion goes red, then restored the fix and
confirmed 3 consecutive runs produce identical, correct section labels).
check-docs-catalog.mjs now cross-checks every item's section against the nav
itself (not just its href), closing the gap the review found: the old check only
proved the page list matched, never that section identity survived a re-sync.
Also deletes docs/snippets/catalog-overview-player.jsx: unreferenced anywhere in
the repo now that catalog/index.mdx mounts CatalogGallery instead (confirmed with
a repo-wide grep before removing).
* chore(catalog): allowlist the deliberate catalog-overview-player.jsx deletion
* feat(catalog): live-hover preview, fuller sidebar, landing order
Three product asks against the open PR's Mintlify preview, plus one
review finding:
- Sidebar: every top-level Catalog group now defaults to expanded, so
the column shows real content instead of nine collapsed rows over
an empty column. Subsections stay collapsed one level down, the
same depth the reference site itself uses.
- Landing order: Carousels moves to first position (3D motion, not
yet in this repo's registry, will sort first once a separate
initiative lands it - the priority list already accounts for it).
Only the pinned group shows two rows instead of one, matching the
reference site's own convention rather than every group.
- Hover-to-play: items whose composition is live-capable (a paused,
seekable GSAP timeline, no sub-composition mount, no WebGPU) get a
real hover-preview wired to their own composition HTML, extracted
once as a static sidecar file from data this repo already serves
at each item's own doc page. Items with a recorded preview video
fall back to that; everything else shows its poster. Verified no
WebGL/three.js item is ever marked live (238 live, 30 video, 132
poster-only of 400).
- The vendored player CDN reference was already fixed to @latest in
the prior commit; noting it here since a reviewer flagged the same
line independently on the prior head.
docs/public/catalog/gallery-live/**/*.html (238 files, NO_ESSAY_COMMENTS_OK)
are generated sidecars: each one is a composition's existing HTML, already
tracked verbatim in docs/public/catalog/{blocks,components}/*.json, written
out as a plain file so the hover-preview snippet can fetch it as text. Not
hand-authored; their comments are the original composition authors', copied
unchanged. Regenerated by scripts/sync-docs-catalog.mjs on every run.
* refactor(catalog): merge the item and preview passes, one group-label source
itemFrom() and walk() computed the same group-label fallback expression
independently; itemFrom now returns it once alongside the item instead
of the caller re-deriving it. The item/preview construction and the
separate "for (const item of items)" preview pass are merged into one
walk() as items are built, dropping the mutate-then-delete item.live
scratch field. Byte-identical generated output, confirmed by diff.
* chore(catalog): scrub the private upstream repo name from code comments
An independent adversarial review found the same leak class as an
earlier fix (commit cfe14f813, an internal decision code) in four
provenance comments naming a private individual's private GitHub
repository and an exact commit sha, in a public repo. Replaced with
a functional description of the port; no identifying reference to
the source repo or its owner remains in tracked file content.
The PR description had the same reference (a live markdown link);
edited directly on the open PR, no code change needed for that half.
* chore(catalog): restore the adapted-from-elsewhere signal without the name
* fix(docs-catalog): fail hard when the page-list merge-base diff cannot be computed
* fix(catalog): mark canvas-draw-element items unsupported instead of dropping their payload
* fix(catalog): collapse every sidebar group, fill column with descriptions
Mintlify's group schema has no description field, so each group's blurb is
a CSS ::after keyed off the sidebar's own data-title/data-group-tag attributes instead.
NO_ESSAY_COMMENTS_OK: false positive.
The real /* */ block is 3 lines. The hook flags plain CSS declaration lines
(long selectors plus content:var() strings) as comments; they are code, not prose.
* feat(catalog): fold the 3D-motion group into the browse grid
Regenerated after merging feat/ad93-3d-motion-catalog: 407 items, 10
groups, 3D motion leading and pinned on the landing order.
* chore(catalog): regenerate hover sidecars for newly-live-eligible items
heygen-avatar-promo-card, hw-write-title, slack-notification-ad, orbit-card.
NO_ESSAY_COMMENTS_OK: generated composition HTML, not hand-authored.
* fix(docs-catalog): the page-list check should catch loss, not additions
It was written for a pure refactor (this PR's original scope: same pages,
different nav shape) so identical-set was the right proof. Stacking a
sibling feature branch on top legitimately adds pages; the real invariant
is nothing lost and no duplicates, so only that half stays an assertion.
* fix(catalog): mount the player from each item's own payload, no CDN needed
Root cause of the grey Carousels/3D-motion tiles: those registry items
never had a CDN poster/video, and the .html hover sidecar 404s on the
deployed docs host (Mintlify drops .html/.js/.css from docs/public with
no error). Cards now fetch the same repo-served .json payload the detail
page already uses, mount a player, seek to 3s and rest there, play on
hover -- viewport-gated, capped per tier (DOM vs WebGL) so a heavy row
can't blow the page's GPU budget. Also fixes a real regression: the
canvas-draw-element marker file was making detail pages embed a broken
player (srcdoc=undefined) instead of falling back correctly; it now
renders an honest tile naming the required flag. Deletes the now-dead
.html sidecar mechanism and its vendored gating helper.
* fix(catalog): move player-mount consts inside the component scope
Mintlify's snippet bundler drops top-level const/function declarations that sit
outside the exported binding, so every reference to MAX_DOM_PLAYERS and
MAX_WEBGL_PLAYERS threw ReferenceError on the deployed build, silently killing
the mount before any fetch ran.
Also stop suppressing the title placeholder for player-mode cards: it must
stay visible until a frame actually paints, not disappear into an empty box
the moment the observer decides to mount.
* fix(catalog): make mount failures loud and add a bundler-scope check
Widen mount's try/catch to cover the entire body, including the tier lookup
that previously threw outside it -- any failure now logs once and leaves the
titled placeholder in place instead of silently dropping into an empty box.
Add a check-docs-catalog.mjs assertion (via the TypeScript compiler API) that
fails the build if catalog-gallery.jsx gains a top-level const or function
outside its exported component, so the next contributor cannot reintroduce
the bundler-drop bug silently.
* fix(catalog): fall back to placeholder when a preview never reaches ready
A player that neither errors nor fires ready within a few seconds left a bare
mounted element with nothing painted. Also fixes unmount() keying its map
lookup by the host DOM node while mount() stores state under item.href,
which meant scrolled-away previews never freed their tier cap slot.
* docs(catalog): trim an essay-length comment in docs-catalog-shared.mjs
* fix(catalog): drop the WebGPU tile message, keep the headline mounted
A WebGPU-gapped item showed a dedicated "Needs WebGPU" card instead of
falling back to its poster/video like every other unrenderable-live
item already does; previewFor() now treats every preview gap the
same way, so the tile draws whatever media the item has instead of a
special-cased message. Also memoises MotionWord so the headline
animation keeps its component identity across hover/filter re-renders
instead of remounting and restarting.
* chore(catalog): regenerate catalog data and nav after retargeting to main
The seven 3D-motion items only exist on the 3D-motion-catalog branch;
regenerating against main drops their dead nav/gallery entries so the
grid ships over the existing 400 items with no broken link or empty
tile. They come back automatically once that branch lands and this
generator runs again.
* fix(docs): clear format, lint and complexity gates on the catalog PR
Format/Preflight/Windows-tests were failing on two unformatted files;
ran oxfmt to fix. Fallow's high-crap-score gate was newly flagging six
pre-existing functions that only became "new" findings because the
branch was retargeted directly onto main. Collapsed textureSampleWord's
23-branch if-chain into an equivalent lookup array (verified identical
output against 1547 real registry slugs plus adversarial ordering
cases), and exempted the remaining pre-existing, unauthored findings
using this repo's established fallow-ignore-next-line and
.fallowrc.jsonc health.ignore conventions.
* fix(catalog): drop the stale index prose, give the new item a CDN preview
The old static-index page's "Use an item" tutorial and group tour sat
unstyled below the new browse grid and named groups that no longer
exist; the grid already shows the current groups, so the block is
removed rather than rewritten. Kept the required Related topics
section.
heygen-avatar-promo-card now carries a poster/video CDN preview like
every other item, so its gallery tile has something to draw at rest.
* fix(catalog): correct an inaccurate fallow-exemption justification
A reviewer caught that the generate-catalog-payloads.ts exemption
claimed the file was unmodified by this PR when it is not; describe
the actual change instead.
* fix(catalog): style the Related topics section instead of leaving it bare
The page renders in Mintlify's frame mode, which drops normal prose
styling, so the plain markdown heading and links below the gallery
rendered as unstyled grey text with no spacing. Replaced with a small
styled section matching the gallery's own visual language (shared
--hf-* theme tokens, same page gutter), rather than dropping the links.
* refactor(catalog): use this repo's own CardGroup pattern for Related topics
An independent review caught that the hand-rolled CSS from the prior
commit duplicated a pattern this repo already has: docs/studio/index.mdx
styles its own Related topics section with Mintlify's built-in
CardGroup/Card components. Switched to that instead and dropped the
custom CSS. Also trimmed an over-long fallow-exemption comment another
reviewer flagged as narrating process rather than stating the invariant.
* refactor(catalog): drop unreachable player branch in gallery hover effect
* fix(catalog): keep nav landing page and recorded videos, free player slots, check in CI
The generator dropped catalog/index and replaced recorded videos with a flag notice.
A card scrolled away before ready released its player slot twice.
check-docs-catalog now runs in CI.
* fix(catalog): release player slots in one place, run catalog check on docs-only PRs
Unmount, error, timeout and catch now share one idempotent release.
The Lint job also runs when only docs or registry files change.
* fix(catalog): a superseded failed mount no longer marks the new card unavailable
* revert(catalog): move the CI wiring out of this PR
The CI change ships separately as chore(ci).
* fix(catalog): the generator prunes generated pages and keeps hand-written ones
Replaces the re-add guard: a group holding catalog/index survives with the index intact.

fix(catalog): fall back to recorded video when directory is over budget (#4084)
* fix(catalog): fall back to recorded video when directory is over budget hostItemDirectory() returned "" for both "not needed" and "over the 2MB host budget", so an item that needed its own hosted directory but exceeded the cap (texture-mask-text: 5.6MB of mask PNGs referenced via runtime JS template strings, invisible to the static asset scanner) silently shipped a payload with no <base href> and dead relative image references, 404ing on the docs site. It now returns a tagged result so the caller can fall back to the recorded video on over-budget, same as the existing unresolved-assets fallback. * test(catalog): cover the over-budget skip path in the payload generator * chore(catalog): allowlist the deliberate over-budget payload deletion * chore(catalog): dedupe hosted-directory assertions, note pre-existing complexity Fallow's new-only gate flagged two problems this branch introduced: five near-identical hostItemDirectory assertions in the file-race test collapse into a shared expectHosted() helper, and the over-budget branch added to buildPayload pushed it one branch past the complexity threshold on top of already-high pre-existing debt (CRAP 240 before this branch, unrelated to the fix). Suppressed with the repo's existing fallow-ignore-next-line convention rather than refactoring an unrelated 115-line function inside a bugfix PR. |

test(cli): add a real-render e2e check for render telemetry properties (#4018)
Extends scripts/ci/cli-telemetry-e2e.mjs (already used to verify the `add` command's telemetry) to spawn the built `render` command against two generated fixture compositions and assert on the captured PostHog batch, rather than a unit fixture that stubs the browser or ffmpeg. One fixture sets every probed property (audio and image elements present, root/body CSS size deliberately mismatched from the declared composition size, a skill flag, one injected environment override) and its pair sets none, so each property is asserted on both its present-and-correct side and its absent-or-zero side in the same pair of runs: audio_count, image_count, root_body_mismatch and its delta bucket, authoring_skill_source, hf_env_overrides, and ffmpeg/browser_version_major. fix(docs): emit catalog source accordion titles as plain strings (#4006)
The generated catalog pages rendered the "Source" accordion title as a
JSX expression, `<Accordion title={`name.html`}>`. Mintlify's search
indexer stringifies expression attribute nodes rather than evaluating
them, so every one of the 399 catalog pages surfaced its Source section
in search results as "[object Object]" (visible on the Scroll Feed page,
among others).
The template literal carried no escaping benefit: every title is a
single-segment `name.html` path, and a double-quoted JSX string handles
it directly. Introduce `mdxStringAttribute`, which emits a plain
`name="value"` attribute and escapes `& " < { }` as HTML character
references (MDX decodes references inside quoted attribute values, and
unlike JSON.stringify it does not rely on backslash escapes, which JSX
strings do not honour). Use it for both the Source accordion title and
the preview iframe title, and regenerate the catalog pages.
Regenerated with `npx tsx scripts/generate-catalog-pages.ts`; the only
change across the 399 pages is the one Accordion title line each.

fix(studio): the preview stays paused, survives typing, and opens without a re-encode (#3910)
* chore(studio): remove the write-only self-write timestamp ref
`domEditSaveTimestampRef` was assigned at 26 sites across 54 files and read
nowhere. It used to feed a 2 s "suppress the watcher reload after our own
write" window; that mechanism was replaced by content-hash identity in
sdkSelfWriteRegistry, whose header still says why (a clock cannot tell an
SDK self-write echo from an undo landing in the same window). The reader
went with that change, the writers did not, and three comments kept
describing the timestamp as protection that no longer existed.
Pure deletion: the ref, every prop and parameter that threaded it, every
assignment, the five comments citing it, and the orphaned test helpers.
No behaviour change; the studio suite, typecheck, lint and format are
green.
Not removed: the __hfSuppressSceneMutations wrapper in gsapSoftReload.ts.
It looked undefined from inside the studio package, but shader-transitions
installs it on the preview window (hyper-shader.ts) so soft reloads do not
invalidate cached transitions. It is live.
* docs(studio): plan for loading the preview during the shell's first layout
* fix(runtime): a paused preview stays still after any seek
Sub-compositions kept animating while the transport was paused and the
Studio button showed play. A render-seek unpauses every sibling timeline so
GSAP propagates the root's totalTime into them, and nothing paused them
again; parented to the global ticker, they free-ran at 1x while the master
timeline and the clock stayed stopped. The Studio reaches that seek path
through its seek-driven fallback adapter right after a preview reload,
which is why editing text was what set it off. Captured live in the user's
preview: seven child timelines advancing 0.210s per 200ms sample, all
gsapPaused=false, transport not playing.
Three fixes under one invariant: while the clock is paused nothing runs,
and the button never disagrees with the runtime.
- The sibling rearm is a lease, not a resting state: seekTimelineAndAdapters
now returns every timeline it unpaused to paused in a finally. The second
rearm after the child re-seek only ever changed the leaked state and is
gone, with the comment that justified the leak by describing one caller.
- The paused side of the transport tick policed nothing; it now stops any
timed media element found running. A parked transport runs no ticks, so a
capture-phase play listener wakes it.
- Studio's canvas click resumed by setting the store flag alone; it now
requests playback through the player so adapter, rAF loop and flag agree.
Regression tests fail without each of the three changes.
* perf(studio-server): stop re-encoding videos the browser already plays on open
Opening a project kicked off a background transcode for every asset whose
codec some browser might not decode. VP9 is on that list for Safari's sake,
so a Chrome user opening a project with a VP9 avatar paid a ~10s, ~60
CPU-second re-encode across six cores on every open, concurrently with the
browser's first layout, for an output nothing ever requested: across four
recorded sessions the browser asked for the proxy zero times.
One predicate was doing two jobs. "Could some browser fail on this" is a
property of the asset and decides what gets injected into the page;
"will this client request the substitute" decides whether to spend CPU
before being asked. The codec table now carries an explicit prewarm flag:
HEVC and ProRes (no browser decodes them) still warm; VP9 and AV1 are
injected but transcoded lazily by the existing ?hf-proxy= request, which
already reports failure as a 502.
Pre-warms requested and proxies served are now counted on the existing
structured-stderr telemetry channel, because a speculative job with a 0%
hit rate emits no error and had been invisible. A single lookup helper
also closes a prototype-key gap where one path used Object.hasOwn and the
other a bare index.
Regression test: a VP9 and an HEVC asset in one composition yield exactly
one pre-warm, for the HEVC. Fails on the previous gate.
* perf(cli): serve the studio bundle compressed and cache hashed assets
The 4.1MB studio bundle was served uncompressed with Cache-Control:
no-store, so every open of the studio re-downloaded and re-parsed it. Vite
names built assets with an 8-character content hash, so their bytes can
never change: those now ship gzip-compressed (1.25MB on the wire,
byte-identical after inflation) with a one-year immutable cache policy.
Unhashed files under public/ keep no-store, and the HTML shell, which
previously sent no Cache-Control at all, now sends no-store explicitly:
it is the only thing that names the current hashed bundle, and it must
keep revalidating for the immutable policy to be safe.
The hash test only accepts the segment after the last hyphen and requires
a digit, underscore or capital, so an ordinary hyphenated name like
user-Guide-v2.js is not mistaken for a hash and served forever.
* perf(cli): warm the preview route before the browser opens
The browser's first request for a project's preview paid the server's cold
compiler import and first bundle in the request path, after the studio
shell's own first-layout stall, so both costs landed on the user's
time-to-first-frame in series. The CLI now issues one fire-and-forget
request for the preview route from openStudioBrowser, the single funnel
for every launch path, before the --no-open early return so pasted URLs
benefit too. Measured on the demo project: first client request 231ms
before, 101ms after; the ETag 304 path afterwards is under 1ms.
The fetch carries a 10s abort so an unsettled connection cannot keep an
otherwise-finished CLI process alive, matching the package's existing
convention. The shader query params the player appends are not part of
the route's cache key, so the plain route URL warms the same entry.
* perf(studio): request the player chunk before the shell's first layout
The dynamic import of @hyperframes/player ran inside the preview's mount
effect, which React schedules after the shell's first layout. On a cold
open that layout stalls the main thread for seconds, so the chunk request
waited behind it for no reason. The import is now kicked at module scope,
behind a typeof window guard that preserves the documented SSR contract
(the module registers a custom element at load), and the mount effect
awaits the already-in-flight promise. Verified in the built bundle: the
preload call sits at module top level, so the request goes out on bundle
evaluation.
* fix(studio): editing a text property no longer reloads the preview
Every keystroke in the Design panel writes the composition file, the file
watcher announces the change to the studio, and the studio decides whether
the change was its own. Over the CLI's event stream that decision has
never worked: the browser hands the handler a MessageEvent whose data is
a JSON string, and three of the four payload readers (version, write
token, content) only understood an already-parsed object, so they read
every field as absent. An absent token means "someone else edited the
file", and the studio hard-reloaded the preview iframe on its own edit,
blanking it for seconds. The path reader alone knew how to unwrap the
string, which is why the event was recognised well enough to reload and
never well enough to suppress.
The envelope is now decoded once, at the boundary, by one function that
all three transports feed; the readers share one field accessor so they
cannot diverge again. The production event-stream rung is extracted into
an exported channel so a test can drive a real MessageEvent through the
listener it registers, which was impossible before because vitest defines
import.meta.hot and the selection never reached that rung under test.
A second, smaller cause: the server attached the write receipt to the
first subscriber only and deleted it on read, so any other listener saw
an unlabelled change. Reads are now non-destructive with the TTL as the
only eviction, scanning newest-first because identical bytes written
twice inside the TTL (undo, retyping a value) share a version and the
older token was already spent. The file version now ships with every
event, receipt or not, so duplicate deliveries of one change dedupe
instead of reloading once each.
shouldReloadSdkSession had no production callers and a signature that
invited an undecoded delivery straight back into this bug; it is removed.
consumeFileWriteReceipt stays as a deprecated alias for one release.
Regression tests: a Studio write delivered as a real SSE MessageEvent is
suppressed; two subscribers of one watcher event reload once; a genuinely
external write still reloads; a repeat of earlier bytes gets the newest
token; a receipt past the TTL is not recognised. Each fails on the code
before it.
* fix(runtime): paused-time media playback is borrowed, not banned
The paused-side enforcement added in the previous commit had no notion of
provenance, so it stopped two features that legitimately play media while the
transport clock is paused. Both were deterministic, not racy: the capture-phase
`play` listener means the very play() that starts them wakes the transport that
stops them.
- The colour-grading preview (colorGrading.ts startPreviewPlayback) plays a
video while paused to render grading previews. It went dark on the first
paused tick.
- The Studio's scrub audition (timelineIframeHelpers.ts applyScrub) plays the
music track for ~140 ms while paused so a playhead drag is audible. Same path
killed it.
A runtime-owned lease fixes both without weakening the enforcement. One owner: a
WeakSet in the runtime closure, with lease/release published on the existing
window.__hf surface for the Studio, which reaches the element across the iframe
boundary and cannot call into the closure. The grading runtime is constructed
with the pair directly. Both the cheap probe and the sync path skip leased
elements while the clock is paused; during playback the transport owns everything
again. Anything that plays while paused without a lease is, by definition, the
defect the enforcement exists for, and is still stopped.
Two corrections to the previous commit's reasoning:
The old leak broke the render path too, deterministically, not only the preview.
packages/producer/src/services/fileServer.ts:375-379 seekToTime flushes the
virtualized rAF queue, and GSAP's global ticker with it, after renderSeek and
before the frame screenshot (fileServer.ts:657-664, hf.seek). A sibling left
unpaused therefore advanced by the full inter-frame delta into the captured
frame. The finally added in the previous commit fixes that as well.
Deleting the second activateSiblingTimelines is safe because nothing between
frames reads a sibling's paused(), verified by grep over the deterministic
adapters, syncTimedElementVisibility, the hf-timelines-built handler and
__hfReseekGpu. Not merely because seekStandaloneRegisteredTimelines pauses each
child. The code comment now gives that reason.
Tests, each proven non-vacuous by reverting the piece it guards:
- a leased element survives repeated paused ticks and is stopped once released
- the colour-grading preview survives, through the real init wiring
- the scrub borrows the element and gives it back on stop
- the existing test that an unleased element is still stopped keeps passing
* test(runtime): a lease ends when the transport plays or the borrower stops
Two assertions the review found not load-bearing. Dropping the isPlaying
branch so leased media stayed exempt during playback left every test
green; a leased out-of-window clip is now asserted stopped the moment the
transport plays. Deleting the release in the grading stop closure also
left the suite green, because the pause on the next line satisfied the
assertion; a restart after stop is now asserted stopped, which only the
release makes true.
* test(studio): the event-stream channel must open /api/events
* fix(studio-server): stop printing a proxy diagnostic line per clip on every render
Review of the pre-warm commit found the diagnostic louder than the thing it
diagnoses, and the two counters measuring different things under one name.
The per-asset `prewarm_requested` line is now behind
HYPERFRAMES_DEBUG_MEDIA_PROXY, matching isGpuProbeDebugEnabled in
packages/engine/src/utils/gpuEncoder.ts. A composition with fifty hostile
clips printed fifty JSON lines into a clack-formatted terminal on every
re-render. One summary line is written at process exit instead, using the
same process.on("exit") shutdown hook as packages/cli/src/cli.ts.
The counters now share a unit. prewarmsRequested counts per asset per render;
proxyRequests counted every HTTP request, including 304s. It now increments
once per resolveProxy call, after the ETag shortcut, so a revalidated repeat
no longer reads as fresh demand. An unconditional Range refill still counts,
and the docstring says so rather than claiming otherwise.
The HEVC justification was false on macOS Chrome, which answers canPlayType
for hvc1 with "probably" and keeps the source, so the pre-warm is redeemed
there only through the reactive zero-videoWidth path. prewarm stays true
because Chrome on Windows/Linux and Firefox do need the substitute; the
comment and test names now say "no cross-platform decode" instead of
"browsers never decode it".
Two test gaps closed. Nulling vp9's representativeMime left the suite green
while making the client skip canPlayType and proxy on every browser, which
would reinstate exactly the transcodes this work removed; the mimes are now
pinned. The Object.prototype test passed with the hasOwn guard deleted, so it
now goes through probeAssetCodec, the input that actually misbehaves without
it. Both fail when the change is reverted.
* perf(cli): stop gzipping the studio bundle on loopback
Compression made the cold open slower on the only transport this server has.
It binds 127.0.0.1 with no --host, and measured there the six bundle assets
took 69.8 ms with gzip against 7.9 ms raw; the 4.1 MB chunk alone was 49.4 ms
against 3.1 ms. hono/compress is removed, which also retires the Vary header
question it raised. If remote serving ever matters, compress at build time
rather than per request.
The cache policy is now decided by route instead of by filename. Reading a
content hash out of a name cannot work: rollup's alphabet is base64url and
includes a hyphen, so roughly one hashed file in ten was misread as unhashed,
and the immutable header also leaked onto hand-authored public/ files served
by the same handler. packages/studio/vite.config.ts sets neither
build.assetsDir nor publicDir, so dist/assets holds only rollup's hashed
emits and every public/ file lands at the dist root. /assets/* is therefore
immutable and /icons/* and /favicon.svg keep revalidating, with no heuristic
in between.
The shell is no-cache rather than no-store. It carries no ETag, so both force
the same full refetch, but no-store puts the document on Chrome's bfcache
blocklist: leaving Studio and pressing Back would cold-boot the app instead
of restoring it.
* docs(runtime): say what the paused-media probe actually filters
* revert(cli): drop the preview prewarm that held the CLI event loop

fix(skills): search the component catalog before hand-building a look (#3829)
* fix(motion-graphics): make the catalog search fire before hand-authoring
The workflow's only reuse instruction pointed at catalog-map.md, a
hand-maintained snapshot of ~60 registry items, and no file in the skill
ever named `hyperframes catalog --query`. An agent asked mid-build for
CRT scanlines and a glitch effect had no instruction to search, so it
hand-authored both while caption-glitch-rgb ("RGB chromatic aberration
with CRT scanline overlay") ranks first for that query on either tier.
The search reads the hosted registry and needs nothing installed, from
any directory with no project, so "the components were not installed"
was never the cause. Say that where the reader is, since the wrong
diagnosis is the intuitive one.
Director Part 2 and the Builder now run the search before naming a
block, and catalog-map.md is labelled a partial snapshot whose misses
prove nothing. Pinned by a content test in coreSkillContent.test.ts.
* fix(skills): search the component catalog before hand-building a look
Authoring workflows never told the agent to search the component library,
so agents rebuilt effects the registry already shipped. A user reported
building an effect from scratch that the registry already contained; the
search that would have found it needs nothing installed, which is why the
usual self-diagnosis ("I forgot to install the components") is wrong.
All ten workflow skills carried zero mentions of `hyperframes catalog`.
The instruction lived only in hyperframes-cli and hyperframes-registry,
both loaded on demand, and the registry skill's own trigger named the
command rather than the symptom - circular, because an agent that never
thought to search could not reach the doc telling it to search.
- Eight workflows now run the search at the point they decide what to
build, before authoring. The two that compile through a closed
authoring vocabulary (embedded-captions, talking-head-recut) document
why they deliberately do not.
- hyperframes-registry triggers on the symptom (a named look, effect,
treatment or transition) instead of the command name; the router table
and the catalog surfaces carry the same framing.
- Fixes hand-maintained lists that had drifted: bar-chart-race was listed
as a hand-author gap in two files while shipping in the registry;
stat-motion was named as an installable block and is not one; the
caption-* family count was one high; the registry discovery tables
claimed to be the block list while covering 97 of 180.
- bun run lint:skills now fails when a doc marked as a registry snapshot
names an item the registry does not have.
* refactor(scripts): reuse native recursive readdir and the shared registry type
Simplify pass on the new registry-snapshot check, behaviour identical:
- collectMarkdownFiles uses readdirSync({ recursive: true }) instead of
hand-rolled recursion, matching scripts/generate-template-previews.ts.
- registryItemNames types registry.json with the exported RegistryManifest
instead of an ad hoc inline shape, matching scripts/catalog/build-local-vectors.ts.
The runtime guard stays: a cast describes the file, it does not validate it.
- One report() helper replaces the duplicated print-and-count block in both
lint passes.
* refactor(scripts): name the registry check's blind spots and stop self-arming
Applies the review findings on the new check, behaviour identical except
where noted:
- lintRegistryItemRefs returns null for an unmarked file instead of an
empty array, so "not a snapshot" and "a clean snapshot" have one owner
and the marker is matched once rather than twice.
- Marker detection ignores fenced blocks, so a doc that documents the
marker syntax in an example no longer arms the check on itself. The id
scan still reads full content, so fenced examples stay covered.
- The header comment and two tests now pin both known false negatives:
identifiers outside backticks, and single-word item names. Measured on
the six marked files, dropping the hyphen requirement would monitor 3
more items and force 46 allow= entries for ordinary prose words, so the
requirement stays and the gap is stated instead of silent.

feat(registry): add 25 image carousel blocks (#3790)
* feat(registry): add 25 image carousel blocks (5 families × 5 variants) Five carousel families, each with 5 style variants: - Orbit (1–5): image cards on a spinning 3D Fibonacci sphere - Path (1–5): cards following animated CSS motion paths - Circle (1–5): circular carousel layouts - Vision (1–5): Apple Vision-style spatial presentations - Text Circle (1–5): circular carousels with text overlays All blocks are 1920×1080 at 6s, with 12–24 configurable image slots. Includes catalog preview thumbnails for each block. Co-Authored-By: Jake Moran <jake.moran@heygen.com> * refactor(registry): host carousel block images on the CDN The registry is served straight out of this repository (DEFAULT_REGISTRY_URL points at raw.githubusercontent.com), so every byte a block ships is permanent history. The 25 carousel blocks added 421 JPEGs, 27.7 MiB in a checkout, and made the diff 472 files. Only 23 of those images were distinct: the same 12-24 placeholders were copied into every block. files[] entries gain an optional `url`. When set, the installer fetches the bytes from there instead of joining the registry base. `path` does not change and still says where the file lands relative to the item, so composition HTML, target mirroring and `hyperframes add` behave exactly as before. Keys are content-addressed, so the 396 manifest entries resolve to 23 objects, and a changed image gets a new URL rather than a stale one cached behind `immutable, max-age=31536000`. The catalog preview renderer copies an item's directory and renders it, so it needs the same materialisation step. Without it the preview draws every card blank and reports success, which is worse than failing. Also drops registry/catalog/, 25 hand-made thumbnails referenced by nothing; catalog previews are rendered by CI and served from docs/images/catalog. Verified: all 23 objects return 200 from the CDN with hashes matching their keys; `hyperframes add carousel-orbit-1` against a local registry installs 24 real JPEGs; the preview render produces the album art, and produces blank cards when the fetch step is removed. * style(registry): format the carousel composition HTML `oxfmt --check .` covers the whole tree, and these 25 files were never run through it. The pre-commit hook only formats staged files, so nothing local caught it. * feat(catalog): publish the carousel blocks without republishing their images These 25 blocks had no Catalog page. Every other item in the registry has one, so they shipped invisible: installable by name, unfindable by browsing. Generating them naively undid the change they were added by. The Catalog payload copies an item's assets into docs/public/, which is tracked, so the 396 images this PR just removed came back as 43 MB one directory over — worse than the 3 MB they started as, because each block got its own copy. The copy exists because these compositions assemble `img.src` at run time out of a variable value, so there is no `src="..."` in the markup for the payload's asset scan to resolve. An unpredictable path can only be satisfied by serving every file beside it, which is what `needsOwnDirectory` asks for. An absolute URL needs no directory: the scan already skips any `https:` reference. So for the payload path only, hosted files are left undownloaded and the composition's variable defaults are rewritten to their URLs. The preview renderer still downloads them, because it paints real frames and a missing file is a blank card. The explorer posts every value to the preview frame on mount, including untouched ones, so the page's variable list carries the URLs too. Left as local paths they would have overridden the payload's own defaults and asked the frame for a file that was deliberately never published. Result: 25 pages, 25 payloads, zero bytes of image added. Verified: a spike item declaring no assets at all rendered its 24 covers from the CDN, proving the variable-default path; payload generation for a carousel block now writes no item directory and no shared asset; the preview render still produces the album art. mint validate and mint broken-links pass on the new pages. test:scripts is green. * refactor(catalog): split the hosted-asset step out of prepareProjectDir Two functions rather than one: finding the composition and rewriting its variable defaults are separate jobs, and inlining the mode branch pushed prepareProjectDir past the complexity gate it was already sitting on. Behaviour is unchanged. Re-verified both paths after the split: the payload for a carousel block still writes no item directory and no shared asset, and the preview render still produces the album art. * feat(catalog): give the carousels their own shelf 25 image carousels landed in Showcases and were 53% of it, so the scenes that shelf exists for disappeared underneath them. That is the same shape the 24 editor themes made, and it gets the same fix they got. Keyed on the first tag, which is this file's stated grouping rule, rather than on the name. `screen-flow-carousel` leads with `product-demo` and stays on the shelf that says what it is for; a future carousel that is not named `carousel-*` still lands here. Showcases 47 -> 22, Carousels 25, and no existing item changed shelf. * fix(registry): centre the circle-5 carousel path in its composition Its ring was centred at x=3832.6 in a 3840-wide composition, so it sat on the right edge and most of it fell outside the frame. Only a few cards were ever visible, cropped, with two thirds of the composition empty. The exported path carried absolute coordinates from a layout that was never recentred. Shifting the four vertices by (-1912.597, -4.340) puts the ring on the composition centre. Handles are relative, so only the anchor points move and the shape is unchanged. carousel-text-circle-5 shares the identical path and had the identical fault. The other three circle variants sit within 12% of centre, which reads as authored placement rather than the same bug, so they are left alone. * fix(catalog): rebuild the circle-5 payloads after recentring the path The Catalog preview plays the payload, not the composition on disk, so recentring the source changed nothing a reader sees. The payload still carried the old vertices and the ring still hung off the right edge of the frame. Verified the consumer this time, not just the producer: both payloads now resolve to a path centre of x=1920. The other 23 rebuild byte-identical, so the formatting pass did not reach them. * feat(catalog): promote Carousels to its own section It was a shelf inside Scenes & demos, which is where a scene type belongs by kind but not by weight. At 25 items it is larger than Data & charts (17) and Blocks (13), each of which is already a section holding a single shelf, so the catalog's own precedent puts it one level up. Pulling it out also takes the largest section in the catalog from 120 items to 95, which is the reason the shelf was added in the first place. The two circle-5 pages change because their embedded source block carries the recentred path; nothing else in them moved. --------- Co-authored-by: Jake Moran <jake.moran@heygen.com> Co-authored-by: Miguel Angel Simon Sierra <miguel.sierra@heygen.com> |

fix(scripts): stop the large-file guard firing on text (#3475)
`docs/changelog.mdx` reached 512 KB and started failing the 500 KB pre-commit check, so `chore: release v0.8.14` could only be committed by passing `HF_MAX_NONLFS_KB`. Every release from here would need the same override, and the file grows a few KB each time. The check is for binaries. Its own error message says "large binaries are being committed to git instead of LFS", and its header explains why: an ONNX model, HDR-regression MP4s, demo clips, each of which lives in history forever and is paid for by every clone. That cost is specific to binaries. Git delta-compresses text, so release notes that grow a few KB per commit add a few KB to the pack, while a binary of the same size re-enters the pack whole on every edit. Text is now exempt regardless of size, detected with `grep -I` (a file with NUL bytes is binary), the same heuristic git uses for "Binary files differ". The binary rule, the `registry/` exemption, the LFS check and the size threshold are all unchanged. The alternative was an allowlist entry for the one file, which would leave the next legitimately growing text file to hit the same wall and get the same one-off exemption. `scripts/check-large-files.sh` had no test. It has one now, wired into `test:scripts` so it actually runs: an over-limit binary fails, an over-limit text file passes, an under-limit binary passes, and multiple offenders are all named. Verified the text case fails with the exemption removed, so the test pins the behaviour rather than describing it. |

fix(catalog): render the Matrix Decode docs preview; remove Checkout Flow (#3396)
* fix(catalog): reveal Matrix Decode captions with autoAlpha so the docs preview renders The demo and snippet flipped word spans with zero-duration display sets, which the seek-driven docs player never applies after its style restore: the composition played 8s of black. autoAlpha reveals with the scrambles as same-length absolute overlays follow the keyframes contract (never tween display) and survive seeks and loop wraps. fix(catalog): make component previews answer their variables panel (#3323)
* fix(catalog): make component previews answer their variables panel Every control on a component's catalog page did nothing. Asking caption-camera-follow for a violet accent rendered gold, and so did green and blue, on 166 of the 168 components that declare variables. A component ships a snippet, which is what the page hands you to paste and which carries the declaration plus the script that turns a chosen value into a CSS custom property, and a demo.html which stages and animates it. The preview is built from the demo, and the demo was authored as a copy of the snippet rather than a reference to it. The copies drifted until almost none of them carried the declaration or the reader, so the payload for that page never contained the word violet at all. Components come in two shapes, so the repair does too. 123 ship a snippet that registers its own paused timeline. That snippet is a whole piece, so their preview is now built from it and carries markup, variables and motion together. 45 are markup plus a commented recipe, where the demo owns the motion. Those demos now carry the snippet's declaration, reader and var-driven CSS in the registry itself, written by scripts/catalog/sync-demo-variables.ts. Nothing is patched in at build time. A test runs that tool in dry mode and fails when a demo has drifted again, naming the command that repairs it. It also asserts it inspected more than a hundred components, because a check that silently matches nothing is how this rotted in the first place. Measured by rendering every payload in a real player rather than by reading markup: payloads declaring their variables go from 2 of 168 to 168 of 168, previews that animate go from 166 to 167, and nothing that moved stopped moving. ascii-render-pass and star-rating-fill render a still frame when built from their snippet, so they keep the demo path as a recorded exception and stay in the state they were already in. * refactor(catalog): give the preview pipeline one lookup and one entrypoint guard Follow-up on the same branch, no behaviour change: 42 tests still pass and `sync-demo-variables --check` still reports all 168 components clean. The payload generator and the demo sync had each grown their own copy of "given a component directory, find the snippet and the demo". Both now call `componentFiles`, which is the same duplication-by-copying that broke the previews in the first place. Both catalog generators also carried a byte-identical 12-line guard for "only run main() when this file is the entrypoint". That clone was already in the tree, but nothing had touched both files at once before, so it had never surfaced. It is now `runAsCommand`, and the sync script's variant of the same condition is `isEntrypoint`. The rest is flattening: the layering guards read as a table of conditions instead of a chain, the reporting splits by what it reports, and the entry resolution comes out of `buildPayload` rather than being spliced into it. Also runs the formatter over the demos this branch rewrote. Whitespace only, and `notes-typing` is the only component demo that renders pre-formatted text, which this does not touch. |

fix(docs): load the player from latest, not a pinned minor (#3320)
* fix(docs): load the player from latest, not a pinned minor The catalog pages pinned the player CDN URL to a minor line, and that pin sat one line behind after the last release. Every page kept rendering, on the older build, so nothing surfaced it: the only symptom was that a fix published to npm never appeared on the docs. The generator derived its pin from the player's package.json, which is correct only if every page is regenerated on the release that moves it. That is the step that did not happen, and it has to happen across 175 generated pages plus three hand-written files for the pin to be true. A version carried in step across 178 places will be stale, and stale here is silent. Ask for latest instead and there is nothing to carry. This costs the ability to hold the docs back from a bad player release. Paid deliberately: the pin did not buy that either, it only delayed the good releases too. A test asserts no pinned version comes back, and fails if it stops finding the references at all, so it cannot pass by matching nothing. * refactor(scripts): list tracked files instead of walking the tree The pin guard hand-rolled a recursive directory walk with its own skip list and size cap, which the audit flagged: helpers living in a test file earn no coverage, so their complexity lands straight on the CRAP score. git already knows which files to read, and ignores node_modules and build output for us, so one call replaces the walker and both findings go away. |

feat(studio): prompt to install FFmpeg before Export, not after (#3314)
Exporting without FFmpeg installed used to show "Server error (503). Check
the terminal for details." The server already knew the exact cause and sent
a per-platform install command in the response body; Studio discarded that
body and printed the status code. The user found out only after the
composition was finished.
Studio now asks the dev server on load whether this machine can encode, and
the Renders panel shows the cause plus a copyable install command when it
cannot, with a Recheck that avoids restarting Studio.
- New GET /api/environment/ffmpeg calls runEnvironmentChecks() with every
optional check off, which is exactly the FFmpeg and ffprobe pair `doctor`
runs, so Studio and the CLI cannot disagree. Only a passing result is
cached.
- The refusal lives in startRender, not in a button. Studio renders from
three places (the panel's Export, the header's, and each composition card
in the sidebar), so a per-button check would leave the others free to
queue a render that cannot finish. The header and sidebar controls reveal
the prompt rather than going dead.
- A null probe result means "no answer", not "missing", so an older or
unreachable dev server cannot lock a working setup.
- Failed render responses now surface the server's { error, hint }.
- getFFmpegInstallCommand() is the single owner of platform-to-command, with
the prose hint derived from it. Windows gains a winget command and keeps
the manual download route.
Accessibility: the prompt's explanatory line measured 2.2:1 on the card's
amber background against a 4.5:1 minimum, because the panel's usual grey for
secondary text does not survive the tint. Now 6.6:1. Keyboard focus was
invisible on all three controls and now matches the panel's focus ring.
Also folds in cleanups the repo's gates required: the Renders tab moves out
of StudioRightPanel (it was at the 600-line cap and every field it needed was
already on the shell context), StudioContextInput stops keeping a second copy
of the renderQueue shape, and the server tests share one temp-project helper.

docs(skills): fix anime.js v3 syntax in v4 adapter guidance (#3064)
* docs(skills): fix anime.js v3 syntax in v4 adapter guidance
The animejs adapter docs teach v3 syntax against a v4 build, so the examples
cannot run as written: every v4 bundle assigns a *namespace object* to the
global `anime`, making v3's `anime({ targets })` call form a TypeError. `easing:`
is now `ease:`, ease names lost their `ease` prefix, and `timeline.add()` takes
`(targets, parameters, position)`.
- Rewrite `skills/hyperframes-animation/adapters/animejs.md` for v4:
`anime.animate()` / `anime.createTimeline()`, `ease:` names, targets-first
`add()`, position shorthands, and a note that the producer fixtures pin
4.0.2 (`lib/`) while 4.1+ moved bundles to `dist/bundles/`.
- Fix the same v3 `anime.timeline({ targets })` snippet in
`skills/hyperframes-keyframes/references/keyframe-patterns.md`.
- Stop advertising `anime.running` auto-discovery as a safety net. No v4 build
exports `running` (checked 4.0.2 and 4.5.0), so `discover()` returns
immediately and any instance a composition forgets to push onto
`window.__hfAnime` is silently never seeked. Marked v3-only/inert in the
skill page and the adapter docstring; explicit registration is now stated
as mandatory.
- Add render-safety notes the page lacked: `createSeededRandom()` as the
deterministic replacement for `Math.random()`, and why
`autoplay: onScroll(...)`, `createDraggable`, and pointer-driven
`createAnimatable` cannot work under headless seek rendering.
- Regenerate skills-manifest.json.
Runtime behaviour is unchanged: the `packages/core` edit is comment-only, and
the seek path already works on v4 (registered instances expose
seek/pause/play). The now-dead `anime.running` branch in `discover()` is left
in place — it is guarded and try/caught, and removing it is a behaviour change
that belongs in its own PR.
* fix(core): align Anime.js globals with v4

fix: create temp dirs with mkdtemp, not a name built from Date.now() (#3241)
* fix: create temp dirs with mkdtemp, not a name built from Date.now() Closes nine open `js/insecure-temporary-file` alerts — the technically correct ones. An audit of all 29 open alerts for that rule split them three ways: - 19 false positives: the write lands inside a directory the caller already made with `mkdtempSync`, and CodeQL's dataflow reaches `tmpdir()` without seeing the mkdtemp in between. - 1 mitigated: `fontCompression.ts` writes with `flag: "wx"` and only takes the tmpdir branch inside Lambda, where /tmp is single-tenant. - 9 real, and these are them. A name built from `Date.now()` under the shared temp dir, followed by `mkdirSync`, is guessable to the millisecond AND leaves a window between choosing the name and creating it, so on a shared machine another user can pre-create or symlink the path first. `mkdtempSync` closes both halves: it picks the random suffix and creates the directory 0700 in one syscall. Same shape, one line shorter, and the alerts go away rather than being dismissed. Six sites in `normalize.test.ts` (its `mkdirSync` import goes with them), one in `generate-catalog-previews.ts` — that single construction accounted for three alerts, since the other two were writes into the directory it made. No shared helper. `mkdtempSync` is already the stdlib primitive for exactly this, and the two callers live in different packages, so a wrapper would need a home in core to serve one CLI test and one build script — more indirection than the line it saves. Deliberately not touching the other 20: excluding the rule repo-wide would hide this class of bug from future code, which is the reason these are fixed rather than silenced. * fix: track the wav temp dir for cleanup and finish the mkdtemp sweep The wav helper pushed the file path into `dirs`, so `afterEach` removed `tone.wav` and left the directory it had just made — four per suite run. Push the directory and derive the file path from it. Measured: the old code leaks 4 directories per run, the new code leaks 0. Three sites still built a predictable name and then created it. CodeQL never flagged them — its dataflow reaches the template preview writes through a `readdir` walk and does not connect them back to the `tmpdir()` root — so the alert list was narrower than the pattern, and closing only the alerts would turn the rule green while the shape survived where nothing would re-flag it. `generate-template-previews.ts` is the near-twin of the file this change started from, and the other two are producer dev entry points. All three use the path only through the variable, so the random suffix changes nothing. Catalog previews now call the existing `createCatalogPreviewTempDir` instead of repeating its body. That test was in no runner, so it pinned uniqueness and mode 0700 on a function nothing called; adding it to `test:scripts` alongside a real caller makes it load-bearing. The rationale for the primitive moves to the helper, which is now the only place it lives. * ci: re-run catalog previews when the temp-dir module changes Routing the renderer through `createCatalogPreviewTempDir` made that module part of its runtime path, and the workflow already states the rule for the sibling case: a module the renderer imports has to appear in the trigger, or a change to it alone never re-runs the job that exercises it. Add it to the `paths:` filter and to the renderer canary, so a PR touching only the temp-dir allocation still renders both shape canaries. Verified against this branch's own range: the previous argument list does not report the file, so a helper-only PR was invisible to both checks. |

fix(core): give the chorus and phaser LFOs a phase, and unwire them on dispose (#3183)
* fix(studio): drop the unused DomEditSelection import in PropertyPanelFlat CI caught it on PR #3026 (wa-12-panel-params); a later refactor in the stack removed the last use of the type here without removing the import. * fix(studio): close the typecheck and fallow gaps wa-18b-reschedule opened useAutomationLanes.ts's write() assumed gesture-scoped coalescing and a preview-only commit that useDomEditAttributeCommits.ts never grew — backported that option support from its own later commit so the two sides of the API agree. The paste path and its tests were missing the box selection's v0/v1 bounds a sibling commit added to AutomationSelection. The FX panel's carve controls still edited the six mechanism numbers (maxCutDb, bands, intelligibilityBias) after carveProfile() collapsed authoring to one Strength knob, so those fields no longer existed on HfCarveSettings; UI now edits strength, and analyseCarveBands is called with carveProfile(strength). Also closes fallow's complexity, dead-code and duplication findings on this PR's diff: extracted automationLaneDragMath.ts (pure group/point-move math) and useAutomationRangeDrag.ts (the marquee-select gesture) out of useAutomationLaneGestures.ts, pulled a couple of render-loop ternaries and a resolver into named functions, dropped an export nothing outside its file used, and shared a step-simplifier between audioCarve's two envelope builders. The edge-stretch vs. box-select priority test in TimelineAutomationLane.test was still pinning the pre-box-select rule (edge wins over a point sitting on it) that a sibling commit deliberately reversed — a point inside the box is now selected content, so grabbing it drags the group instead. Updated the test to the shipped rule instead of the old one. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(core): cap the via conic's weight so an edge-clamped via point can't NaN A via point pulled out past the segment (viaX: 5, viaY: -3) clamps to (0.999, 0.001) — exactly on the steady region's edge, where edge - viaX is 0. viaConic divided by that zero to get an infinite weight, and shapeVia turned Infinity into NaN a few steps later (Infinity - Infinity in the quadratic coefficient). NaN reaching setValueCurveAtTime silences the automated parameter for the rest of the render. Capped the weight at 1e6 instead of leaving it unbounded — past that point the arc already reads as touching the via point, so nothing visible is lost. Also hardened shapeVia's existing denominator guard (`<= 0`) to `!(> 0)`, since NaN fails the original comparison and fell through it. Review by Miga (PR #3208). * fix(studio-server): fingerprint the proactive waveform cache key too The route already keys the waveform cache on the asset's size and mtime as well as its path, so a rebuilt-in-place file gets fresh peaks instead of stale ones. generateWaveformCache — the proactive path that runs on upload — still called buildWaveformCacheKey with the path alone, so it wrote to a different key than the route reads from (making the pre-generated cache never found) and kept the exact collision bug this fingerprint exists to fix on its own path. Review by Miga (PR #3211). * style(docs): run oxfmt on the /hyperframes-audio skill docs Table column widths had drifted out of alignment with oxfmt's own rules, failing format:check and blocking the Preflight gate every downstream branch inherits. Whitespace only, no content change. * fix(core): stop \b from missing underscore-separated names, guard clipsOverlap's negative duration \b treats `_` as a word character, so \bbed\b never matched bed_01, music_bed_loop, or theme_song, and \bvo\b/\bvox\b/\btts\b had the same gap — an underscore-separated bed classified as "unknown" and could end up offered as its own carve source. Replaced the short hints with a boundary that actually excludes letters and digits on both sides. clipsOverlap computed end = start + duration without guarding sign, so a negative duration put end before start — an interval that does not describe anything, and one specific case showed it silently dropping a real overlap (a shorter, earlier broken end rejected a clip that genuinely contained the point). Duration clamps to zero instead: a clip cannot un-play time, and a zero-length clip at its start is the sane reading of "duration nobody wrote down as positive." Review by Miga (PR #3212). * fix(studio): widen PropertyPanel's resetModules render timeout again The 20s margin (already once widened for the same reason) is timing out in CI's full-monorepo Test run — the resetModules()+fresh-import render this test needs is uncached and competes with every other package's test suite for the same worker pool, and the same test passes in well under 2s standalone. Went to 45s rather than re-tuning to whatever number happens to clear the current CI load, since that number moves every time CI gains a package. * fix(studio): stop the single-candidate auto-apply carve firing twice Two auto-apply effects both fire when sourceOptions.length === 1: the multi-candidate effect only guards length === 0, so a single candidate passes it too, and the single-candidate effect passes its own guard right after — both compute the same sources list and both call setCarve, so the common case (one narrator, one bed) triggered two decodes, two FFT runs, and two concurrent attribute writes for one decision. The multi-candidate effect now defers to its sibling for exactly one candidate, which already has its own detailed handling for that case. Review by Miga (PR #3213). * feat(core): carve against every voice over a bed, always (#3212) * feat(core): carve against every voice over a bed, always dynamically A bed usually runs under a whole sequence — a narrator, an interview answer, a second presenter — and carving against one of them left the others fighting it. `source` becomes `sources`, and `mixCarveSources` sums every voice onto the BED's clock before anything is measured. That is what keeps one analysis sufficient: the chain is fixed, so there is no per-voice filter to switch between, and bands drawn from all the speech there is with envelopes that rise wherever any of it happens answer the actual question — where and when is speech masking this bed. Summed rather than averaged: two people talking at once mask more than either alone. Audio before the bed starts is dropped rather than folded in at zero, since it plays over nothing and shifting it would put a cut where there is no voice. `dynamic` is gone. A fixed depth thins the bed through every pause, and once both have been heard there is no reason to want it, so every carve follows the speech. Two helpers the panel and the headless script now share instead of each carrying a copy — two definitions of "what does this name suggest" drift, and then the two disagree about which track is the voice: - `classifyAudioName` reads a track's kind from its id and filename together. `unknown` is deliberately common: treating an unrecognised name as "not a voice" would hide the one track somebody needs to pick. - `clipsOverlap` keeps out a voice that never plays while the bed does. An unwritten duration counts as unbounded, not zero — refusing a clip whose length the composition leaves to the media would drop the commonest case there is. Files written before this still load: a single `source` reads as a one-voice list, a stored `dynamic` is ignored, and an absent attribute means the defaults whole. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(core): stop \b from missing underscore-separated names, guard clipsOverlap's negative duration \b treats `_` as a word character, so \bbed\b never matched bed_01, music_bed_loop, or theme_song, and \bvo\b/\bvox\b/\btts\b had the same gap — an underscore-separated bed classified as "unknown" and could end up offered as its own carve source. --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(studio): port the carve UI off the removed source/dynamic fields #3212 (accidentally squash-merged into this branch instead of main) changed HfCarveSettings from a single `source` + `dynamic` toggle to a `sources` list with dynamic mode removed outright — the multi-voice UI consumer that goes with that shape lands in the very next PR, so this branch was left with a type that no longer matched its own code. Minimal port, not the multi-voice redesign that PR does properly: the "Listen to" picker and analyse() treat sources[0] as the one voice this UI still understands, and every dynamic-mode branch (the automated envelope lanes, the toggle, the checkbox) is gone along with the field — a carve is now always the static value the analysis computes, matching what the type change made permanent. Test suite trimmed the same way: the automation-lane and toggle tests covered behavior that no longer exists. --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat(studio): the FX panel, generated from the registry (#3022)
* feat(engine): render audio FX in an OfflineAudioContext Reads `data-fx-chain` off an audio element and runs the chain over the trimmed WAV before volume automation is baked in — effects should see the raw signal, and the envelope belongs on their output. The processing happens in an OfflineAudioContext inside the headless browser the engine already drives, running the same graph builders the studio previews with. That is the point of the approach: one implementation per effect, so the render agreeing with the preview is a property of the architecture rather than a tolerance to police. Reimplementing each effect as an FFmpeg filter would mean two implementations to keep in step, and for the dynamics processors and modulated delays there is no filter that behaves the same way. `build:audio-fx-runtime` bundles the graph builders into an injectable IIFE, following the same pattern as the existing runtime artifacts, so the browser runs exactly the code the studio does. The page loads from a file:// URL rather than about:blank because AudioWorklet is only exposed in a secure context — the compressor, limiter, gate and bitcrush processors would otherwise fail to register with an opaque error. file:// qualifies and needs no listening socket. The chain is serialised into the attribute the way colour grading carries its config, so there is no side-car file to resolve or lose. An FX failure is fatal for the whole mix rather than a per-track soft failure. Every other audio failure mode degrades gracefully — the track drops, siblings continue — but substituting the dry signal for a processed one ships a render that sounds plausible and is not what the author set up. Since the per-element work races under Promise.all, an internal AbortController chained off the caller's signal aborts in-flight siblings before workDir is removed. * feat(core): voiceover carve analysis Finds the bands a voice occupies so a music bed can be dipped there, letting the voice sit in front without ducking the whole track. Carve is a relationship between two tracks rather than an effect on one, so it stays out of the FX chain. What it emits is an ordinary chain of peaking filters, so a carve composes with whatever else is on the track and needs no separate rendering path. Selection is weighted toward intelligibility rather than raw voice energy. Ranking purely by power lands on the fundamental almost every time, because that is where a voice is loudest — but the masking that actually hurts a voiceover happens higher up, and dipping 160 Hz mostly just thins the bed. The bias is a control, not a constant: at 0 it follows raw energy, at 1 it weights toward 1-3 kHz. Ranking happens in dB, which matters more than it looks. Speech spreads 20-30 dB across these bands — it falls off roughly 6 dB per octave above the fundamental — so a weighting has to be on that scale to move anything at all. A multiplicative weight of `1 - bias + bias * shaped` is bounded below by `1 - bias`, capping its influence at 10*log10(1/(1 - bias)): 5.2 dB at the 0.7 default, 3 dB at 0.5. That is no influence against a real voice — every bias short of ~0.95 would rank exactly like bias 0 and carve the fundamental, the outcome the bias exists to prevent, while looking decisive against a fixture whose bands sit 2 dB apart. So the bias is a dB penalty, zero at 2 kHz and worth up to 30 dB at full strength, and relative cut depths come from a dB difference rather than a ratio of weighted linear powers. The bias reweights ranking without overriding the spectrum — a band the voice has no energy in is not worth carving, and scores -Infinity rather than competing — so a strongly low-pitched voice can still select low at full bias. What the tests hold is that biasing never selects lower than the unbiased ranking, that the DEFAULT bias reaches the presence region on a voice with a realistic tilt, and that bias 0 still follows raw power exactly. Includes a radix-2 FFT rather than a dependency; one Welch-style averaged spectrum over third-octave bands does not justify pulling in a DSP library. * fix(engine): keep the FX render 16-bit, stereo, and correctly sized Three defects in the offline FX path, none of which any test could see. **Float output silently disabled sample-accurate volume automation.** The writer emitted 32-bit IEEE float; the very next mixer step bakes the volume envelope into the samples and accepts only 16-bit PCM, returning null otherwise. So enabling any effect downgraded that track to the ffmpeg expression path — capped at 32 straight segments, quantising a curved envelope, and on a dense one falling back to base volume. It now writes 16-bit PCM, clamped rather than wrapped so a limiter at 0 dB or a resonant filter cannot turn overshoot into a click. A test asserts the baker accepts the writer's own output and actually fades it. **Everything was folded to mono.** `prepareAudioTrack` goes out of its way to emit stereo — its pan filter exists to dodge ffmpeg's 3 dB mono-to-stereo rematrix — and this folded it, then wrote one channel. So adding a single peaking EQ collapsed a bed's width and cost ~3 dB in the render, while preview stayed stereo. Channels now travel as one plane each, through an OfflineAudioContext of the same width, and come back interleaved. **Small results decoded the wrong length.** `new Float32Array(buf.buffer)` discards byteOffset and byteLength, and Node pools small allocations: a 400-byte payload sits at offset 8 inside an 8 KiB pool, so a clip under ~1024 samples decoded as 2048 samples of unrelated memory — and the empty-result guard could not see it. The reader has the mirror-image fix: a float data chunk on an odd boundary (ffmpeg's pcm_f32le writes fmt(18) + fact, landing `data` at 58) now copies instead of throwing RangeError on an unaligned view. The tail limitation is now stated rather than mis-stated: the context is exactly as long as the input, so a reverb or delay still ringing is cut there. The old comment claimed the opposite. How far a tail may run past a clip's end changes the clip's length in the mix, so it is a product decision, not one to make here. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(producer): report an FX render failure as an audio error `processCompositionAudio` reports per-track failures in its result, but an FX failure it cannot degrade past — a browser that will not launch, a chain that will not build — rejects instead. `runAudioStage` had no try, so that rejection escaped to the orchestrator as an unclassified pipeline exception, losing the stage/owner/retryable classification this stage exists to attach, and skipping its abort check on the way out. It now lands in `audioError` alongside every other cause, while an abort still keeps its own shape rather than being reported as an audio problem. Not done here: committing the generated `audio-fx-runtime-inline.ts` so a fresh clone typechecks packages/engine without building first. The bundle is built from the stub, and the stub changes three times across this stack — so the artifact differs per branch and would conflict on every restack. Its model, position-edits-render-inline.ts, is committed only because it is stable. Building before testing is this monorepo's existing contract (studio's tests need core's dist too), so the gap is not specific to audio FX and is better closed by a build ordering gate than by committing a per-branch artifact. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(engine): skip the browser FX render cases when there is no browser CI's `Test` job was red on this PR with four failures, all the same cause: Failed to launch the browser process: spawn /home/runner/.cache/hyperframes/chrome/chrome-headless-shell The job installs ffmpeg and no browser, deliberately — every other suite that needs an external binary already guards on it (`describe.skipIf(!HAS_FFMPEG)`). These cases were the only ones assuming a Chrome, so they failed on an absent dependency rather than on anything about the code. Guards on `resolveHeadlessShellPath()` — the same resolver `acquireBrowser` launches through, so the check cannot drift from the thing it guards the way a hard-coded cache path would. A configured path that does not exist throws; that is caught and read as "cannot run here". Checked both directions rather than just the green one: with a browser all 11 cases run and pass, and with `HYPERFRAMES_BROWSER_PATH` pointed at a missing binary exactly 3 skip and the other 8 still run. A guard that silently skipped everything would have looked identical in CI. They keep their value where it exists — every developer machine, and any job that has run `hyperframes browser ensure`. Not touched: the CodeQL failure on this PR is a run from 2026-08-07, five days and several force-pushes stale. None of the 17 open repo alerts are in files this PR changes; it re-runs on this push. * chore(engine): suppress the temp-file alert with the reason it is safe CodeQL flags `writeWav`'s `writeFileSync` as js/insecure-temporary-file (high) — the one new alert on #3021, and the reason its CodeQL check is red. It is a false positive, and the comment says why rather than just silencing it: `path` is always inside a directory made by `mkdtempSync`, never a name assembled directly under `tmpdir()`. Both callers are covered — the browser host page writes into `mkdtempSync(join(tmpdir(), "hf-fx-host-"))`, and the render output goes to the producer work dir, itself `mkdtempSync(join(tempRoot, "producer-project-"))`. mkdtemp picks the random suffix and creates the directory 0700 in one syscall, so the predictable filename inside it cannot be pre-created or symlinked by another user, which is the attack the rule is about. The analyzer sees the dataflow reach `tmpdir()` and not the mkdtemp in between. Suppressed inline rather than dismissed in the UI, so the justification lives next to the code and the rule stays live for anything added later in this file. Matches the repo's existing convention — `planV2.ts:222` carries an `lgtm[js/insecure-temporary-file]` for a different reason on the same rule. Correcting myself: I first reported this alert as not real, having intersected the PR's files against the default-branch alert list, which does not contain PR-ref alerts. Querying ?ref=refs/pull/3021/merge returns it straight away. * test(engine): probe ffmpeg and Chrome instead of assuming them Two failures on #3021's Test job, both about the environment rather than the code under test. **Bare `ffmpeg` is not on PATH in CI.** The 16-bit fixture shelled out to `execFileSync("ffmpeg", ...)` and died with ENOENT. The job does provide ffmpeg, through `prepare-ffmpeg-bin`, which is what `getFfmpegBinary()` resolves — every other ffmpeg-dependent suite in this package already goes through it. Now this one does too, and the case is `skipIf(!HAS_FFMPEG)` so a contributor without ffmpeg skips rather than fails. **The browser guard trusted the wrong thing.** It asked `resolveHeadlessShellPath()` and treated a returned path as "a browser is here". CI's cache holds a chrome-headless-shell that resolves and then fails to spawn — a partial download is indistinguishable from a working one by `existsSync`, which is all that resolver checks. So the three browser cases ran anyway and failed on the launch. It now runs `--version` and requires exit 0, which is the same probe the ffmpeg suites use: ask the binary, do not infer from the filesystem. Checked both directions rather than just the green one. With a working browser all 11 cases run and pass; with `HYPERFRAMES_BROWSER_PATH` pointed at a binary that exits non-zero — CI's exact situation — exactly 3 skip and the other 8 still run. A guard that quietly skipped everything would have looked identical on the CI summary. * feat(core): register the audio-fx-rack canary at 0% Lands the rollout switch dark, per the registry's own procedure: "Start at percentage: 0 and merge that — a canary at 0 is dead code you can land safely and ramp without a code review." Declared at the bottom of the stack so every branch above can read it. The gate itself goes in at wa-4-fx-panel, where the rack first appears. Scope is deliberate and stated in the description: it gates the AUTHORING surface only. A composition that already carries `data-fx-chain` still plays and renders it. A canary should stage who can REACH a feature, not make an attribute somebody already wrote silently inert — an agent that writes a chain through the skill would otherwise produce a file whose audio processing vanishes with no error. * feat(studio): audio FX panel generated from the registry Controls for the whole chain: add, remove, reorder, bypass, and every knob each effect declares. Nothing in the panel knows what a compressor is. The registry supplies each parameter's range, step, unit and scale and the panel renders what it finds, so adding an effect or a knob upstream needs no change here, and the panel cannot offer a value the renderer would reject — a typed-in figure is clamped into the declared range on the way through. Frequency and time controls span three or four decades, so those declare a log scale and the slider maps exponentially; a linear slider would spend most of its travel somewhere useless. Reorder is a first-class control because chain order changes the sound: a reverb before a compressor is not the same as after. Carve gets its own block rather than an entry in the add menu, with a picker for the voice track to listen to. It processes this track based on another one, which is how a sidechain control works — it lives on the track that changes, and names the source. * feat(studio): show the Audio FX section on audio tracks Adds `audioFx` to the editing-affordances contract and renders the FX panel in the inspector when an `<audio>` element is selected. The section is audio-only. A `<video>` carries its sound on a separate `<audio>` element, so an FX chain on the video would have nothing to process. Chain and carve settings are written straight back onto the element as serialised attributes, the way colour grading carries its config, so persistence is an ordinary attribute write and needs no new server route. A chain that cannot be parsed renders as empty rather than breaking the panel, and the attribute is left untouched until the user changes something. The collapsed group summarises what is on the track ("2 effects + carve") so the state is visible without expanding it. Wired into PropertyPanelFlat rather than PropertyPanel: STUDIO_FLAT_INSPECTOR_ENABLED defaults to true, so the flat inspector is what actually renders. * refactor(studio): lift audioFxSummary out of PropertyPanelFlat `PropertyPanelFlat.tsx` is 612 lines here against the repo's 600-line cap, so the required File size check is red — the sole reason this PR is blocked. The review says as much: "mechanical fix (~5 min), not a design problem. Code itself is LGTM." Moves `audioFxSummary` to `audioFxSummary.ts`, the same file a later branch creates for it. Deliberately the smallest cut that clears the cap rather than the whole `AudioFxGroup` extraction: every later commit in the stack edits AudioFxGroup, so moving it here would collide with each of them, while almost nothing touches this function. 595 lines. * feat(studio): put the audio FX rack behind its canary Gates the rack on `isCanaryEnabled("audio-fx-rack")`, which is registered at 0% — so the whole 47-PR stack can land without showing anyone a feature that has not been measured yet. The gate sits on the AUTHORING surface and nowhere else. The runtime and the render still honour a `data-fx-chain` already on an element, so a composition written through the skill or by `carve.mjs` keeps its processing rather than going silently dry for anyone outside the cohort. A canary should stage who can REACH a feature, not make an attribute somebody already wrote stop working with no error. Gated at the panel rather than in `resolveEditingSections`: the affordance resolver is a pure function in core describing what an element CAN support, and rollout state is not a property of an `<audio>` tag. Pinned the 0% with a test, and checked it fails at 25 — a ramp should have to break something that says "this ships dark" out loud. One gap, stated rather than papered over: the gate itself has no unit test. I wrote one and deleted it, because `PropertyPanel.test.tsx`'s harness never renders the Audio FX group for its audio fixture even with the gate removed — so the test passed for the wrong reason in the off case and could not pass at all in the on case. A test that cannot fail for the right reason is worse than none. Verifying the gate needs the panel harness to mount that section first, which is its own change. * fix(studio): drop the FX panel's dead __testables export Fallow audit flagged it — no test imports the module. * fix(core, studio): clear the remaining Fallow audit findings on the FX panel - Split FxSection's per-node row into FxNodeRow + FxNodeControls so the CRAP score (31.6, threshold 30) splits across two smaller units instead of moving wholesale with one extraction. - Dedupe the repeated "open the add menu, read its items" block in propertyPanelFxSection.test.tsx into openAddMenuItems(). - Merge build-audio-fx-runtime.ts and build-position-edits-render.ts into one build-inline-artifact.ts, config-selected by CLI arg — the two scripts were a byte-for-byte clone save for names. - Exempt canary.test.ts's rawFnv (a deliberate independent reimplementation used to cross-check canaryBucket, per its own docstring) and the property-panel test files' shared renderInto/mount scaffolding (pre-existing across 9 files, 2 outside this stack) in .fallowrc.jsonc, consistent with this file's existing exemptions for the same class of intentional/pre-existing duplication. * fix(ci): allowlist the build-script consolidation in the no-main-deletions guard build-audio-fx-runtime.ts and build-position-edits-render.ts were merged into build-inline-artifact.ts to kill a fallow duplication finding; the deletion guard flagged that as an accidental loss since main still has both originals. --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

fix(skills): stop embedded-captions shipping author-only paths; dedupe slideshow (#3225)
* fix(skills): stop embedded-captions shipping author-only paths The skill is distributed via `hyperframes skills` (--copy, so the installed bundle matches the published tree), but three shipped files pointed at directories that only exist on the original author's machine. - references/test-set.md: deleted. Nothing in the skill referenced it (zero inbound links across all 140 files), and its corpus lives at ~/Downloads/heygen_relevant_videos/, so it was neither reachable nor runnable. - SKILL.md / dna/README.md: the retired 54-template archive was stated as living at a ~/Downloads path. Keeps the fact, drops the false location. - themes/PORTING.md: marked maintainer-only. It authors new theme DNAs rather than using the skill, nothing links it, and its inputs (the cap_fx3 demos, the frame corpora, CONTRACT.md) are not distributed. The paths stay as the author's original layout, now explicitly labelled as names for the inputs. The 10 references to ~/Downloads/hyperframes are untouched: those are the documented last resort in a real chain (HYPERFRAMES_ROOT -> in-repo -> that path), and every file carrying it also carries the env var. Regenerates skills-manifest.json, which hashes the whole skill directory. Closes #3219 — Rames Jusso (James's assistant) * fix(skills): delete themes/PORTING.md instead of marking it internal Nothing in the skill referenced it, its inputs are not distributed, and git history keeps it recoverable. Marking a dead procedure still ships the dead procedure. — Rames Jusso (James's assistant) * fix(skills): remove duplicated media-cleanup block in slideshow The media-cleanup and global-nav-mute sections appeared twice in skills/slideshow/SKILL.md. The two copies were not identical: the later one was missing the paragraph requiring custom media controls to sync through media events. Deletes the incomplete copy, keeps the complete one. Originally authored in #3218. Carried here re-signed because the org requires signed commits and both changes regenerate skills-manifest.json, which would otherwise conflict between the two PRs. feat(studio): ask for feedback when a render ends, not on a session counter (#3205)
## What Studio's feedback prompt now fires when a render finishes or fails, instead of on a session counter, and the reports it collects carry enough context to act on. - Replaces the 32px inline bar with a card in the existing toast stack - Adds `studio_feedback_shown` / `studio_feedback_dismissed` / `studio_feedback_interview_click`, so the funnel is visible - A failed export and a crash skip the 0-10 score and ask what happened - Adds a crash prompt to the error boundary - Attaches a breadcrumb trail, render settings and outcome, and how the project was created ## Before / after <img width="1500" alt="Before: a 32px feedback strip pinned under the preview. After: the feedback card in the toast stack, with one-tap answers, and the red variant for a failed export." src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/29e2373f-ee96-42c4-b006-ab9a0e56a60a" /> The old bar's rating numbers are `neutral-600` on `neutral-900/80`, which is why it reads as a disabled row rather than a control. **In the running Studio** — bottom-right, sharing the toast stack, hovering a chip explains it on the line above the input: <img width="1500" alt="The feedback card in the bottom-right of the running Studio, with the rotated follow-up question and a hovered chip explained inline." src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/3969da50-cc7a-466a-bbf9-b151a1bc1d5d" /> **On the crash screen** — the prompt the error boundary renders, asking what the user was doing rather than what went wrong, since the stack trace already covers the latter: <img width="1200" alt="The Studio crash screen with the feedback card below the Try again and Reload Studio buttons." src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/4d287011-9c19-4b94-99d0-07a0388fb39c" /> | | Before | After | |---|---|---| | **Trigger** | Every 10th session | A render finishing, failing, or a crash | | **Placement** | 32px inline bar, pushes preview up | Card in the toast stack, no layout shift | | **Rating targets** | 11 bare buttons, `neutral-600` | Native radios, resting fill, `neutral-400` | | **Follow-up** | Free text or nothing | One rotated question, four to seven one-tap answers | | **Option help** | None | Inline hint on hover and focus | | **Press feedback** | None | `active:scale-[0.97]`, 150ms ease-out | | **Keyboard** | No exit path | Escape closes, Enter sends, arrows move the rating | | **Auto-dismiss** | 20s, always | 30s, cancelled the moment you interact | | **Failure case** | Same NPS question | Its own question, no score, error quoted back | | **Crash case** | Nothing | Prompt on the crash screen | | **Visibility** | Submissions only | Shown / dismissed (with reason) / submitted / interview click | | **Report content** | Rating, comment | Plus breadcrumbs, render settings and outcome, project provenance | ## Why The old bar fired on a session count, so it interrupted at a moment with no subject: nothing the user had just done, nothing to have an opinion about. It also emitted nothing when it appeared or when it was dismissed, which made the collection rate impossible to diagnose. A prompt nobody answers and a prompt that never renders looked identical from the outside. Visually it read as a disabled row: 11 buttons at 11px in `neutral-600` on a dark strip, with no resting affordance. And appearing mid-task pushed the whole preview stack up, which the old code carried a comment apologising for. Separately, the reports it did collect were not actionable. A comment says what went wrong; it almost never says how to get there. ## How **One trigger, one owner.** `feedbackTrigger` owns eligibility and nothing else does: once per tab, thirty days after an answer, seven after a dismissal, never when telemetry is off (prompting someone whose response we would then drop wastes their attention). `VITE_HYPERFRAMES_NO_FEEDBACK=1` still disables it entirely. **One hook, every failure path.** The trigger watches the render job list rather than each of the four places a render can finish (server rejection, unreachable server, SSE terminal event, SSE connection drop), so paths added later are covered without touching the trigger. Renders loaded from disk history never fire it. **Reuses what exists.** The card wears `StudioToast`'s glass treatment and joins its stack, so there is no second visual language and no new CSS. The rating row is native radios, which gives arrow-key navigation, grouping and labels for free. **One question each, rotated across users.** A corner card that asks three things gets answered by nobody. Each person gets one follow-up with one-tap answers, explained on a reserved line rather than a floating tooltip (the card is 340px in a corner; a bubble above the chips lands on the question, below lands on the input). Detractors are never given a rotated question, because they already have a specific complaint. Every option was checked against the code: an option naming a feature Studio already has would collect taps meaning "I could not find it", which is indistinguishable afterwards from "it does not exist". **Breadcrumbs cost one line.** Every studio event already flows through `trackEvent`, so recording the trail there needs no new instrumentation and stays correct as events are added. **Provenance lives outside React.** A crash unmounts the tree, so it is captured when the project loads and read from module scope when the crash prompt renders. ### Privacy Breadcrumbs and provenance carry names, enums and counts only. Values are copied from a fixed allowlist of short keys, and anything longer than a slug is dropped rather than truncated, so comments, file paths, stack traces and project titles cannot reach them even if a future event carries one. Tests assert this. ### Where these responses land Studio feedback goes to PostHog and nowhere else, which is what it did before this change too. Worth stating because the CLI behaves differently: `hyperframes feedback` also forwards to the backend feedback endpoint via `submitFeedback`, on top of its PostHog event. Studio has never used that path, before or after this PR, so if you read CLI feedback anywhere other than PostHog, Studio responses will not show up there. Nothing here changes that either way. Whether the two surfaces should share a delivery path is a product question, not a defect in this change, and closing it would need a field on the backend DTO: it is shaped around `cli_version`, and Studio reports from a crash or a failed export deliberately carry no rating. ## Test plan - [x] Unit tests added/updated - [x] Manual testing performed - [ ] Documentation updated (if applicable) **Unit** — 39 new tests: trigger eligibility and cooldowns, the detractor override, rotation, preset shape and the no-brands rule, breadcrumb rolling and privacy, provenance parsing and its failure modes, and the crash boundary rendering the prompt with no rating input. **Live** — both render paths driven end to end against a running Studio on a production bundle, with real renders. Every PostHog request was intercepted and dropped, so nothing reached the project. Verified the emitted payload for a finished render, a failed export, the rotated follow-ups, each chip's hint, and the interview link. **Not covered** — no live capture of a spontaneous crash. Three attempts to force one failed because Studio's guards held and it kept rendering, so the crash path is verified by component tests rather than by driving it. Touch devices see chip labels without hints, since the hint is revealed on hover and focus. |

feat(catalog): put the variables panel back, on payloads (#3199)
* feat(catalog): put the variables panel back, on payloads The panel drove its preview by loading an .html from docs/public, a type the host does not publish, so it showed an empty frame in production and was parked when the catalog was re-landed. It now mounts the same JSON payload the plain player uses and re-mounts it as values change, injecting them as window.__hfVariables into the composition head before any of its scripts run, which is where the runtime reads overrides from. Doing it in the markup rather than after load is what stops the composition initialising with the wrong values first. 172 items with variables get the panel back; the playhead carries across a change so a tweak mid-shot does not jump back to frame zero. * fix(docs): drop the unused url form and the needless escapes * fix(docs): the panel cannot reference a binding beside the export * feat(catalog): make importing an SVG the obvious move A reader arrives at this control with a shape, not with path data, and the panel asked for the coordinates first. Import is now the primary action in a drop target you can see is a drop target, and the raw path sits behind a disclosure for anyone who wants it. * feat(cli): let a fruitless catalog search report the gap An agent that searches by meaning and finds nothing worth installing knows something we do not: the name of a move the catalog is missing. There was no way to tell us, so that knowledge was lost at the end of every run. hyperframes feedback --search-miss "<query>" --wanted "<the move>" records it. It carries no rating, so it never lands in the rating metric, and it is a separate deliberate command rather than something catalog --query does on its own: plain search still sends nothing, which is what the CLI promises. --rating stops being required at the arg level, since a miss has no rating to give. The check moved into the run body, where an absent one is now handled rather than crashing on undefined. * feat(cli): carry tuned variable values into the install snippet Someone who tunes a block on its catalog page had no way to keep those values: the install command was the same one everybody gets, and the tuning stayed on the page. hyperframes add <item> --vars '<json>' now prints a mount element carrying data-variable-values, so the values land where the block is used. They ride on the host rather than being written into the installed file. That keeps the composition on disk byte-identical to the registry's, so a later reinstall can still tell an edit from an update, and it lets two mounts of the same block carry different values. * fix(catalog): serve the item's own directory so runtime paths resolve Some compositions assemble their asset URLs at run time — "compositions/components/" + texture + ".png" for the texture masks, a font the compiler pulled into _remote_media — and no scan of the markup can see a string that does not exist until a script concatenates it. Those items either rendered black or were dropped to a video that had never been uploaded. Each item that needs it now has its prepared directory published, and its payload carries a <base> pointing at it, so any relative path the composition invents resolves. caption-texture renders its masks again, and variable-font-flex has a preview at all for the first time: its MP4 and poster are both 403. Both layouts are published, because which one a composition asks for differs per item, and a directory only earns that if it is under 2 MB. The 12 MB texture sheet keeps the recorded video it already had. * fix(catalog): let the variables panel actually drive the composition Every control on the panel was inert. The values reached the composition and nothing repainted, because the payload had already been compiled: compiling inlines a mounted component and resolves its variables into the markup and CSS, so by the time a reader turns a knob there is nothing left to change. An item that declares variables now ships uncompiled, keeping the mount the runtime loads at run time, which is the only state where data-variable-values still means anything. The component travels inline as a data URI rather than a sibling file, because .html is the one type the docs host will not publish. The demo's own pinned values come off, so the reader's choices reach the mount instead of losing to the values the demo picked to show itself off. Measured on the rendered frame rather than the DOM: green rgb(98,207,144), blue rgb(6,6,199), violet rgb(177,147,230), and back to green. docs/public/catalog drops from 48 MB to 35 MB along the way, since an uncompiled payload carries far less than an inlined one. * feat(catalog): keep variable changes in the url A reader who tuned a piece lost it on reload, and had nothing to send anyone. The values now live in the query string, scoped by composition id so two links never read each other, and only the ones that differ from the defaults are written, so changing one knob gives a short URL rather than every variable spelled out. replaceState rather than pushState: dragging a slider should not leave a trail of history entries. An unreadable value is ignored rather than thrown, so a truncated or hand-edited link opens the piece at its defaults. * fix(catalog): only rewrite the url when a value actually changed * refactor(catalog): memoise the declared defaults on their content * feat(catalog): offer an install command carrying the tuned values The Install block is generated before anyone touches a knob, so it can only ever print the plain command. Someone who spent a minute tuning a piece copied it and got the defaults back. The panel now carries its own command in the Snippet tab, with --vars holding exactly the values that differ. An untouched piece still offers the same short command, so nothing gets noisier for the common case. * fix(catalog): a piece with nothing to render is a skip, not a failure caption-blend-difference is a stylesheet and a paragraph of prose — a class you add to your own captions, with no standalone scene to show. The generator treated that as a build failure, so every run ended by reporting something broken when nothing was. It now reports the shape it is and keeps its recorded video, which is the only honest preview such an item has. A genuine render failure still throws. * fix(catalog): restore variables from the url on a cold load A shared link opened at the defaults. The first render happens on the server, where there is no window to read the query string from, and React then hydrates against that markup and never revisits it — so the values only appeared once you touched a control. The URL is read again after mount, which is the first moment it exists. The value is also escaped once now rather than twice: URLSearchParams already decodes on the way out, and decoding a second time turned an SVG path full of percent-escapes into something that no longer parsed, besides doubling the length of every link. * fix(catalog): mount the preview with the values a link carried The frame was built from the declared defaults and the shared values were posted to it afterwards, which is too late for anything the composition reads once at init: a path arrived after the mark had already been drawn from the default one, so a link looked right in the panel and wrong on screen. * feat(catalog): the install command follows the values you tuned Copying the Install line gave the plain command back, because that block is generated before anyone touches a knob and had no way to know what changed. The tuned command only existed in the panel Snippet tab, which is not where anyone looks for it. The line now reads the same query string the panel writes, so the two agree without either component knowing the other exists, and a shared link carries the right command too. replaceState fires no event, so the panel announces its own writes. * fix(catalog): send a text variable to the preview once it is finished Every other control in the explorer reports a whole value on every event: a slider at any position is a position, a swatch is a colour. A text field is not. Typing v3 into a badge posted v first, so the preview remounted and rendered a composition built from half a word. The post now waits while a text field has focus and goes out when the edit is committed, with Enter or by clicking away. The field itself is unchanged and still tracks every keystroke. --------- Co-authored-by: Miguel Angel Simon Sierra <miguelangelsi07@gmail.com> |

feat(catalog): group the sidebar by what you came to make (#3194)
* feat(catalog): group the sidebar by what you came to make Nineteen shelves in one column is a list to read, not a menu to scan, and two of them were oversized: Effects held 54 items and Showcases 38, two thirds of which were near-identical code-snippet themes. The shelves now sit under eight openable sections named for what a reader is making, and the editor and terminal themes get a shelf of their own. Every existing shelf name survives underneath, so a bookmark into the catalog still lands where it did. Two things had to change to support nesting. The summary count walks sections as well as shelves, and the filter that preserves hand-written groups now recurses: a section holds groups rather than pages, so a check that only read `pages` found nothing generated in one, kept it as if a human had written it, and appended a fresh copy on every run. * fix(catalog): type the nested page count * fix(catalog): nest shelves inside pages so the sidebar renders them |

feat(registry): bring back the video-primitive moves (#3169)
Restores the 208 catalog items reverted after their previews 404'd in production, this time on the payload mechanism rather than the .html files that caused the outage. The generator no longer writes a preview document to docs/public. That writer, and the machinery under it, existed only to produce files the docs host discards, so it is gone rather than bypassed. Items now embed the composition itself via a payload, which is what the previous change already does for the items that were already in the catalog. The variables explorer is parked, not restored: it drove its preview through the same unpublished .html path, so it would have shown an empty frame. Items that declare variables get the live player plus the static variables table, and reconnecting the explorer to payloads is a follow-up. |
