* fix(audio): raise the authoring gain ceiling and carry it through the probes
Builds on #3328, which made the preview graph apply author gain and user volume
exactly once each. That ownership is now correct but everything is still clamped
to 1.0, so a clip authored above unity cannot be heard or rendered.
`HTMLMediaElement.volume` is spec-clamped to [0,1], so both timeline probes lost
a clip's authored gain the moment it also carried a fade: the probe seeded the
element at the clamped value and every sample read back at or below 0 dB, and
the mixer prefers probed keyframes over the static volume. Both probes now
shadow the accessor for their own duration and forward the clamped value to the
native setter, so the authored gain survives while nothing outside the probe
ever sees an illegal volume.
Measured on one 6 s composition, first 4 s: unity -32.8 LUFS, boosted-with-fade
-32.8 before and -27.0 after — +5.8 dB, exactly the gain the clip was authored
at.
One ceiling, defined once in `audioGain.ts` and reachable from both sides: the
render mixer imports it, and the page-serialized probe takes it as a parameter
rather than re-literalling it. User volume stays spec-clamped — it is a fader,
not a gain.
Also holds the percent volume slider above unity in both property panels. That
control tops out at 100%, so one touch would cap a boosted clip and drop up to
12 dB that now genuinely renders; the dB fader that can represent these levels
replaces it in the next PR.
* fix(audio): carry a static above-unity gain onto the preview gain node
Review follow-up.
`setElementVolume` receives the clip's author gain and clamped it to [0,1],
so a static `data-volume` above unity was capped on the WebAudio preview path
while the render honoured it — the exact preview/render divergence this
ceiling exists to close. Automation lanes hid it: they schedule ramps onto the
param directly and never pass through here. The master volume beside it stays
spec-clamped, because a user fader is not a gain.
Verified by mutation: restoring the [0,1] clamp reds the new case.
Also scope the leveller's rationale to this rung — `VOLUME_RANGE` still stops
at unity until the dB fader lands, so "both now span the same range" was
premature — and say why the GSAP-tracking fallback is unity-capped: it reads
back through `el.volume`, which the spec pins to [0,1], so it cannot observe an
above-unity value however wide the clamp gets.
* fix(audio): restore the live test files this branch overwrote, and uncap preview
Review blocker: three files were wholesale copies from the abandoned #3304
branch laid over a two-day-newer base, so they silently reverted work that had
landed in between. CI could not see it — deleted tests do not fail.
- `audioMixer.test.ts` was byte-identical to #3304's head: 1186 lines against a
base of 1353. Gone with it were the `data-playback-start` fallthrough cases
from #3322 — merged 54 minutes before this branch's own merge base — and all
retiming coverage (`playbackRate` 7 to 0, `atempo` 5 to 0), the strict
literal-timing table, and the zero-window cases.
- `mediaVolumeEnvelope.test.ts` dropped the trailing-garbage duration case and
the plateau-retention case.
- `packages/core/package.json` rolled the package version back 0.8.3 to 0.7.109.
All three are restored from `main` with only this PR's additions re-applied on
top, and the subpath export is regenerated by the repo's own script rather than
hand-edited.
Also closes the preview/render split the same review raised. Two clamps had to
go, not one: `setElementVolume` capped the author gain at the transport, and
the first-tick branch in `syncRuntimeMedia` trusted `el.volume` — which is
spec-bound to [0,1] and so cannot represent a boost, opening a boosted clip at
0 dB for one tick before the steady-state branch took over. Both pinned by
tests, both verified by mutation.
Extends the studio-preview fix to the render path and the asset-discovery
utilities, which share the same resolver and had the same defect.
`rewriteAssetPath` takes an optional `assetExists` probe. A plain relative ref
authored in a sub-composition (`_shared.css`, `clip.mp4`) is re-pointed at the
composition's own directory when that sibling exists on disk; project-root refs
with no sibling (the registry's `assets/logo.png` convention) stay as authored.
Callers that can see the filesystem supply the probe, so the module stays free
of node:fs.
Also fixes a second defect in the inliner: `<head>` <link> hrefs and external
script srcs are hoisted into the root document but never went through the
rewrite at all, so even the documented `../` form escaped the project and 404'd
at render time.
Wired into the preview bundler, the producer compiler, the studio preview
builder, the HEVC preview lint, the project lint's asset scans, publish proxy
baking, and media-treatment source resolution.
* refactor(lint): route asset-src skips through a shared isUnresolvedAssetPlaceholder predicate
Follow-up to the templating-token fix. The __UPPER__ + templating-token skip was
copy-pasted across the asset-src sites and had drifted: two non-lint sites carried only
the __UPPER__ half, and htmlCompiler's comment still claimed it "matches lint's skip"
after lint's skip became a superset. Extract one isUnresolvedAssetPlaceholder(rawSrc) in
@hyperframes/parsers/asset-resolution (both placeholder shapes, checked on the raw value)
and route every site through it: the four project.ts lint sites, hevcPreviewLint, and the
two previously-missed post-substitution sites (studio-server mediaCodecMap, producer
htmlCompiler). Remote/inline handling stays per-site (audio uses a narrower check).
Behavior-preserving for the lint sites (full suite green); the two non-lint sites are
post-substitution so they don't false-positive today, but now share one definition and
can't drift again. Adds unit tests for the predicate.

* docs(parsers): refresh hasUnresolvedTemplatingToken aside for the shared predicate
The parenthetical said the __UPPER__ shape keeps its own inline check at each call
site; this branch folded it into isUnresolvedAssetPlaceholder, so point there instead.
Addresses review nit.

* fix(lint): don't flag unresolved templating-token asset srcs as missing
The asset-src rules (audio_src_not_found, missing_local_asset, CSS url(),
and data-composition-src) treat any src that isn't a remote URL or an
__UPPER__ placeholder as a resolvable local path and error when the file
is absent. But the linter runs before any build/templating step, so a src
that still carries a late-bound templating token (<<token>>, {{ token }},
${token}) cannot be resolved statically and is not a missing file.
Add a shared hasUnresolvedTemplatingToken() predicate (alongside the
existing __UPPER__ tolerance) and skip such srcs at each asset-src site,
so unresolved templating tokens no longer surface as false-positive
"file not found / the rendered video will be silent" errors.

* fix(lint): check raw src for templating tokens before cleanAssetUrl; cover video/img/css + hevc
Addresses review. At the <video>/<img>/<source> and CSS url() sites the token skip
ran AFTER cleanAssetUrl(), which splits on ?/# and truncates inside a ${...} expression
(e.g. `${asset?.url}` -> `${asset`), so those sites still emitted the missing-asset
false positive for valid unresolved templates. Move hasUnresolvedTemplatingToken() onto
the RAW value at both sites, and extend the same skip to hevcPreviewLint (same
pre-substitution, cleanAssetUrl-first shape). Add regression tests for video/img/css
(including ?/# inside ${...}) and clarify the predicate docstring.

`bundleToSingleHtml` compiles `data-duration` into `data-end` (in
`compileTimingAttrs`), then calls `validateHyperframeHtmlContract` against
the compiled HTML. The linter's `deprecated_data_end` rule fired on the
compiler's own consistent output — `<audio data-start="0" data-duration="18"
data-end="18">` — because `diagnoseDerivedEnd` unconditionally emitted a
`deprecated-end` diagnostic whenever both attributes were present, ignoring
whether the derived value matched.
Reporters routed this as "raw-source lint passes with 0 errors and 0
warnings, but `check --strict` still logs StaticGuard noise about
data-end without data-duration." Field cluster: cli-feedback crons 61-68,
n=25+ across darwin/arm64, darwin/x64, linux/x64, win32/x64, and versions
0.7.56 through 0.7.64. L3 reporter cite (ts=1784519869): "bundleToSingleHtml
compiles data-duration into data-end, then validates the compiled HTML and
reports its own generated data-end as deprecated."
Fix: `diagnoseDerivedEnd` now stays silent when the paired `data-end`
matches `data-start + data-duration` (within a 1ns epsilon to absorb
IEEE-754 residuals like `0.1 + 0.2 = 0.30000000000000004`). Truly-legacy
authoring shapes — `data-end` alone with no `data-duration`, or a
`data-end` that disagrees with `data-duration` — still fire
`deprecated_data_end`, with a refined message that names the drift on the
conflicting variant.
Facets covered: (a) validator treats compiler-derived `data-end` as legal
when paired with `data-duration`, and (e) recognizes the compile-time
rewrite site (`bundleToSingleHtml` → `compileHtml` → `compileTimingAttrs`).
Facets (b) stderr gating, (c) terminal JSON verdict, and (d) audio-not-
dropped are unblocked transitively — StaticGuard's `console.warn` is
already gated on `!isValid` and never drops audio; the check command
already emits JSON on every terminal path; so once the false-positive
diagnostic stops firing on compiler output, the noisy stderr line and the
misleading "check appears to fail" reporter framing both go away without
further wiring.

* feat(studio-server): serve H.264 proxies from the preview route
Wires the codec manifest and the transcoder into the preview surface: the route
negotiates a proxy via a query param and serves it through the existing range
and ETag machinery, composition HTML carries a codec map for the runtime, and
hostile assets pre-warm so a first play does not wait on a cold transcode.
Exposes the three subpath exports the CLI surfaces consume upstack.
Drops the TEMP fallow entry added with the transcoder: it has real importers now.
* fix(studio-server): publish media proxy exports
* fix(parsers): scan HTML comments linearly
Moves assetResolution.ts from packages/lint into @hyperframes/parsers behind
a ./asset-resolution subpath export, mirroring the ./ff-binaries shape, and
points lint's two importers at it. Pure move: no behavior change. Unblocks
studio-server consuming the same helpers without a dependency cycle (the CLI
already depends on lint, so importing lint from studio-server is not an option).
The cli, engine, and lint packages each carried their own copy of the
ffmpeg/ffprobe lookup, annotated fallow-ignore code-duplication, and the
copies had drifted: the engine copy handled Windows PATHEXT and executed
which/where without a shell but lacked the Homebrew-dirs fallback for
GUI-spawned processes; the cli copy had the opposite. One resolver in
@hyperframes/parsers (the dependency-graph bottom) now carries the union
of both hardenings, and all three packages delegate to it. Every
consumer gets strictly more robust resolution; env-override semantics
per call site are preserved via configuredMustExist.
Addresses R2 CHANGES_REQUESTED from Miga + Rames on PR #2529:
1. Sibling-surface gap (blocker): `hyperframes cloudrun render{,-batch}`,
`hyperframes lambda render{,-batch}` all advertised the same tier-only
aliases (`1080p` / `hd` / `4k` / `uhd`) but normalized them to `landscape`
and never set `outputResolutionAspectAgnostic`. The distributed plumbing
PR #2529 added received `undefined` from those callers, so portrait `1080p`
still hit the original aspect-mismatch on Cloud Run / Lambda.
Fix: introduce `resolveResolutionFlagPair` in `@hyperframes/parsers` (the
single source of truth for the two-step normalize + aspect-agnostic
detect) and route every distributed entrypoint through a shared
`parseOutputResolutionFlag` CLI util so the alias signal now reaches
`SerializableDistributedRenderConfig`. Studio Server keeps its
canonical-only HTTP contract; that intent is now pinned in tests.
2. Preflight recompute (hardening): the earlier "downgrade aspect-mismatch"
preflight cleared un-remapped mismatches, so IG 4:5 (non-preset aspect,
no sibling) and portrait-4K comp + `--resolution 1080p` (remap +
downsample) both slipped through to fail late in `resolveDeviceScaleFactor`.
Now `checkRenderResolutionPreflight` computes the effective preset via
`suggestMatchingPreset` (mirroring the compile stage's
`adaptAspectAgnosticResolution`) and re-checks against that — only
genuinely-fixable mismatches clear early. New tests pin both regressed
input classes.
3. Docker forwarding boundary test (Miga's important #2): pinned
`1080p` survives verbatim as `--resolution 1080p` in the Docker args
so the in-container CLI can re-run `isAspectAgnosticResolutionAlias`.
4. Doc-nit (Miga): parsers/src/types.ts no longer references the
nonexistent `resolveResolutionForComposition` — points at the actual
remap helpers.
Fallow: cloudrun.ts / lambda.ts share 390 lines of pre-existing structural
symmetry (parallel AWS + GCP dispatchers), and lambda/render.ts +
render-batch.ts declare parallel RenderArgs interfaces. Both re-flagged
after threading the aspect-agnostic field through each surface; ignored
with justification in .fallowrc.jsonc. lambda.ts's `run` and
lambda/render.ts's `waitForCompletion` are pre-existing CRAP-score
hotspots untouched by this PR — added under health.ignore.

The aspect-agnostic resolution aliases (`--resolution 1080p` / `hd` / `4k` / `uhd`) previously all normalized to a landscape preset, which rejected portrait 1080x1920 compositions with 'Output resolution incompatible'. Users had to specify the orientation-bearing alias (`1080p-portrait`) or render at native.
This threads two new fields (`outputResolutionAspectAgnostic` + `outputResolutionRaw`) through the render pipeline. At the CLI layer we detect whether the user's flag was an aspect-agnostic alias; at the compile stage we re-map the preset to the composition's orientation via the existing `suggestMatchingPreset` sibling-lookup (formerly private). Explicit orientation-bearing aliases and canonical presets stay strict.
Field signal: ts=1784176662 (darwin/arm64, CLI 0.7.59, `--resolution 1080p` on a 1080x1920 portrait comp).

* fix(lint): stop CSS comments in <style> from manufacturing phantom root tags
extractOpenTags scans raw source text with a flat regex that has no
concept of <style>/<script> block boundaries, so a CSS comment like
`/* <g> wrapper */` inside a <style> block reads as a real open tag.
findRootTag consumes that flat tag list and only skips tags literally
named script/style/meta/link/title, so the phantom <g> tag (not in
that skip list) wins the "first non-ignored body tag" search and gets
returned as the composition root instead of the real one that follows.
This manufactured root_missing_composition_id and root_missing_dimensions
(the phantom tag has neither) plus head_leaked_text (the leaked-text
scan slices up to the phantom tag's position, landing inside the
<style> block before its real closing tag, so the raw CSS text reads
as leaked markup) on an otherwise valid sub-composition — reported
with an exact bisected repro: a <template>-wrapped SVG sub-composition
whose <style> block comments reference an inner <g> element.
Fix: compute <style>/<script> content spans up front (reusing the
existing extractBlocks + STYLE_BLOCK_PATTERN/SCRIPT_BLOCK_PATTERN) and
skip any TAG_PATTERN match that falls inside one, before it ever
reaches findRootTag or any other extractOpenTags consumer. Same shape
as the prior fix for a leading <svg> defs block being mistaken for the
root (8ee4b7df) — this closes a sibling gap in the same function.
Test: new regression case with a <style> block containing a `/* <g> */`
comment ahead of an <svg data-composition-id> root, asserting none of
the three findings fire. Full lint package suite (318 tests) passes.
* feat(lint): flag duplicate data-composition-id values
Declaring data-composition-id on more than one element (commonly the <meta>
tag from the quickstart template AND the root <div> added to satisfy
root_missing_composition_id) is a silent collision: `compositions --json`
returns two entries for the same id (one duration:0) and inspect/snapshot
crash with "Cannot read properties of undefined (reading totalDuration)".
Lint passed clean through all of it.
New rule `duplicate_composition_id`: group elements by data-composition-id
value and error on any value shared by 2+ elements, naming the id and calling
out the meta-vs-root collision in the fixHint. 3 tests: dup fires, single id
passes, two distinct ids don't collide. (Implemented via Codex; verified
independently: 111 lint tests pass, oxfmt/oxlint clean.)

Review follow-ups (both reviewers, all findings):
- resize captures scope to the resize group: convert-to-keyframes
resolvedFromValues and the whole-offset backfill pass the group filter,
so an opacity-touching intro tween can't ride into a converted scale
tween (the rotation fix's contract, now uniform across intercepts)
- commitStaticSet resolves every group's target set BEFORE committing and
coalesces groups landing on the same legacy mixed set into one commit —
the second commit can no longer chase a stale group-derived id
- installAuthoredOpacityCapture also stamps an element the moment it GAINS
data-color-grading at runtime (attributeFilter), not just at insertion
- both writer twins now share the same emitted-set dedupe shape
- applySoftReload's positional tail becomes a SoftReloadOptions object
- readAllAnimatedProperties builds the group-filtered key set immutably
instead of deleting from the set mid-iteration
- applyAuthoredInlineOpacity documents the priority-lossy round-trip
- the marquee hit-test reads activeCompositionPathRef like its neighbors
New tests: resize intercept (scale route + group filter + non-uniform
longhands), after-write-HTML / stamp / empty-stamp opacity restore, the
no-op-commit-with-missed-instant-patch soft-reload contract, and the
runtime-gained-grading stamp.
A parsed timeline set carries immediateRender in extras; the recast
statement builder ALSO pushed the flag unconditionally, so every
split/re-add of a set wrote 'immediateRender: true, immediateRender:
true' into the file, doubling on each pass. Both writer twins (recast +
acorn) now emit each vars key exactly once, properties winning over
extras, and reconcileEditableProps skips newProps keys it already
preserved.
A base `gsap.set(...)` written AFTER the tween calls is wiped on the next
soft reload: when a `from()` tween on the same target lazily initializes
during a backwards render (the studio rebind's progress(0.0001) kick), GSAP
reverts its internal isFromStart set, which removes the whole inline
`transform` — taking the base set's x/y with it. The from() tween then
re-parses the computed transform as identity and bakes x/y = 0 into the
GSAP cache, so every element previously moved in the studio snaps back to
its authored position whenever any other element is edited.
Emitting the global set BEFORE the timeline construction makes it part of
the pre-tween state the from() records, so every revert restores the moved
pose instead of stripping it.
- addAnimationToScript: global sets insert above the timeline declaration;
the new-id lookup now diffs content-based ids instead of assuming the
appended statement is last in source order.
- updateAnimationInScript: a legacy trailing global set is relocated above
the declaration whenever it's touched, healing files written before this
change on the next nudge.

* fix(parsers,sdk,studio-server,studio): unify hf-id space across preview, disk, and SDK session
Root-causes the setTiming element_not_found resolver-shadow divergence class:
timeline edits carry hf-ids read from the live preview DOM, but the preview
minted ids AFTER rewriting attributes (and never persisted them for sub-comps),
while the SDK session mints from the raw file — content-keyed minting then
yields different ids for the same element. Template-based comps were worse:
the SDK excluded the whole <template> subtree, so the session had zero
elements and every edit diverged.
- parsers: ensureHfIds now descends into <template> subtrees (linkedom's
querySelectorAll does not), minting and pinning inner ids
- sdk: buildRoots/buildElement treat <template> as a transparent container,
and resolution (resolveScoped, animation-id map) searches template subtrees
via querySelectorAllDeep — template comps now model, resolve, and edit
- studio-server: the sub-comp preview route persists hf-ids to the raw file
BEFORE the rewrite pipeline (mirrors the main route), pinning one id space
across served DOM, disk, and SDK session
- studio: resolver-shadow skips structurally-empty sessions (no event, no
attempt) and tags fail-open emissions with sourceReadFailed so read errors
are distinguishable from unwired readers in telemetry

* fix(parsers,sdk,studio-server,studio): scope template descent, guard persist route
Addresses the 10 verified findings from the PR #1981 review:
- Restrict template transparency to COMPOSITION templates
(<template data-composition-id>) everywhere — ensureHfIds, SDK
buildChildren, querySelectorAllDeep. A plain <template> (runtime
clone-source) keeps its old fully-excluded behavior: stamping its
interior would duplicate one persisted id across every runtime clone,
and modeling it would show phantom timeline clips.
- Guard the sub-comp persist: only .html files (the wildcard route can
serve any project path — stamping an SVG corrupted it on disk),
try/catch the read (file-removed race becomes 404, not 500), salt the
etag (v2) so pre-fix cached clients don't 304 past the id pin, and
thread the stamped content into buildSubCompositionHtml so served ids
match the mint even when the disk write is skipped.
- Rewrite querySelectorAllDeep as a document-order DOM walk — appending
template matches after top-level matches made duplicate-id tiebreaks
disagree with the preview's unwrapped DOM (wrong-element edits).
- Recurse sourceMutation.querySelectorAllWithTemplates so server-side
ops resolve ids at any template depth, matching SDK resolution.
- Replace the empty-session silent skip with ONE tagged session_empty
event per session — silence would blind the tripwire to exactly the
modeling-gap class that exposed the template bug. Attempts stay
uncounted (an unmodelable comp can't cut over).

* fix(studio-server): close TOCTOU in sub-comp hf-id persist (CodeQL js/file-system-race)
Replace the route-level stat/read/persist sequence with stampFileHfIds:
validation (fstat), read, mint, and write-back all go through ONE open
file descriptor (O_NOFOLLOW where supported), so the path cannot be
swapped between validation and write. Falls back to read-only stamping
when the file isn't writable — content-keyed minting means the SDK
derives the same ids from the same bytes even without the disk write.
Addresses miguel-heygen's blocking review on PR #1981.

* fix(studio-server): linear-time template-attr match (CodeQL js/polynomial-redos)
promoteTemplateCompositionId's single-pattern regex backtracked
polynomially on crafted input. Two-step match: grab each <template>
open tag linearly, then find data-composition-id within that short
tag text. Same semantics (first template carrying the attr wins).

Users pick an --resolution preset whose orientation/aspect ratio (or alpha/HDR mode) conflicts with the composition; the render fails deep in the compiler with a cryptic message. ~8K err / ~1K users.
- New shared pure helper checkOutputResolutionCompatibility in @hyperframes/parsers — single source of truth for aspect/alpha/HDR/downsample/non-integer-scale constraints; suggests the matching-orientation, tier-preserving preset.
- CLI render pre-flight aborts early (before browser/ffmpeg) with an actionable, fix-suggesting message; resolveDeviceScaleFactor delegates to the same helper for identical defense-in-depth messages.
- Suggest (not auto-select); defers when dims can't be determined rather than guessing.
- suggestMatchingPreset keys tier off the -4k suffix so square-family swaps (square + landscape-4k -> square-4k) aren't downgraded to HD.
- render.js DOM polyfill made a lazy import; render.test cold-import beforeAll hooks given a 30s timeout to absorb CI contention.

Fixes#1838
* fix(core,producer,cli): pre-flight validation for empty/malformed sub-compositions
The #1 render failure bucket in production telemetry (PostHog project 356858,
dashboard 1783183 "HyperFrames — Bottom-Line & Activation"; ~65-69K
occurrences / ~27-28K affected users over 30 days, ~80% via AI-agent
authoring flows) is a `data-composition-src` reference pointing at a scene
file that is empty, malformed, or missing.
Root cause, traced end-to-end:
- The literal error "Composition HTML is empty or could not be parsed: <path>"
is real (not a PostHog paraphrase) — thrown by a since-reverted guard in
packages/core/src/compiler/inlineSubCompositions.ts (#1364), then changed to
a silent skip in #1678 to avoid aborting renders on partial content during
authoring. #1629 added per-assembler guards for 3 skill workflows
(product-launch-video, faceless-explainer, pr-to-video), but general-video
and hand-authored flows — where the dominant filename `scene-title.html`
(40K+/68K of the bucket) originates — have no assembler and thus no guard.
#1678 assumed the assembler guards from #1629 covered this pre-render; they
only covered 3 of the many authoring flows.
- On current `main`, an empty/malformed data-composition-src file no longer
crashes or throws during render — it's silently dropped by the tolerant
inliner. Reproduced locally: `hyperframes render` on a project with an
empty scene-title.html "succeeds" after ~93s (two 45s
pollSubCompositionTimelines timeouts) with the scene silently missing from
the output video. `hyperframes validate` also reports "No console errors"
for the same broken project.
- The raw `Cannot destructure property 'firstElementChild' of
'documentElement' as it is null` crash reproduces directly against
linkedom (the DOMParser polyfill packages/cli/src/utils/dom.ts installs in
the real CLI runtime) for empty and non-HTML input — confirmed with a
standalone repro script, not just inferred. jsdom/happy-dom (used in this
repo's own test environment) are spec-compliant and never produce a null
documentElement, which is why this needed a linkedom-specific test file.
Fix:
- New shared helper `checkSubCompositionUsability`
(packages/core/src/compiler/subCompositionValidity.ts) is the single
source of truth for "is this data-composition-src file usable" — mirrors
the inliner's own parse/template/body logic so all callers agree.
- `inlineSubCompositions.ts` (preview/studio bundling) now uses the shared
helper internally but keeps its #1678 tolerant skip-and-continue behavior
unchanged — mid-authoring iteration on a partial project must keep
working. `onMissingComposition` now also receives a human-readable reason.
- New render-only pre-flight (`assertSubCompositionsUsable` in
packages/producer/src/services/htmlCompiler.ts) walks every
data-composition-src reference (including nested ones, root-relative,
matching parseSubCompositions' own resolution) before any compilation
work starts, and throws naming every offending file at once. This is
unconditional — not gated behind --strict — because a render that
silently drops a scene is strictly worse than one that refuses to start.
Confirmed locally: render now fails in ~0.4s with an actionable message
instead of "succeeding" after 93s with a missing scene.
- New `hyperframes lint` rule `missing_or_empty_sub_composition`
(packages/cli/src/utils/lintProject.ts) surfaces the same check as a
file-scoped, actionable lint error (already unconditional — lint exits 1
on any error).
- `hyperframes validate` now also runs this check before launching a
browser, so it no longer reports "No console errors" for a project with a
broken sub-composition.
- `packages/core/src/parsers/htmlParser.ts`: guarded every
`documentElement`-may-be-null access (parseHtml, updateElementInHtml,
addElementToHtml, removeElementFromHtml, extractCompositionMetadata,
validateCompositionHtml) with a new typed `CompositionHtmlParseError` (or,
for validateCompositionHtml's collect-and-report contract, a typed
validation failure) instead of a raw crash.
Tests: empty file, whitespace-only, malformed/non-HTML, missing file, nested
sub-compositions (both happy path and broken-grandchild), and the happy path
— at the shared-helper, lint, and render pre-flight layers.
Not changed: the AI-agent authoring skills (skills/*). general-video and
hand-authored flows have no assemble-index.mjs equivalent to guard, so the
fix is at the CLI/render layer instead — flow-agnostic, covers every
authoring path, and the skills' existing "run lint/validate and stop on
failure" guidance now actually catches this class of mistake once run.
Not run in this environment: the producer package's full regression-harness
test suite (`bun test` in packages/producer) — it performs heavy real
rendering (S3 asset downloads, Google Fonts fetches, full video encodes) and
did not complete in a reasonable time in this sandbox. Verified instead via
the targeted test file for all touched code (76/76 passing), whole-repo
typecheck/build/oxlint, `fallow audit` (complexity/duplication/dead-code
gate, clean), and manual end-to-end CLI runs (render/lint/validate) against
reproduction projects, including a nested sub-composition scenario. CI
should run the full producer suite before merge.

* refactor(parsers,lint): port empty-composition pre-flight to extracted packages
Rebased onto main, which extracted @hyperframes/lint from core (lint depends
only on parsers, not core). Relocate checkSubCompositionUsability from core to
@hyperframes/parsers so both core (inliner) and lint can consume it without a
core<->lint cycle; core keeps a @deprecated re-export shim.
Correctness fixes from code review:
- checkSubCompositionUsability now returns "no-composition-root" when the
<template>/<body> content has no [data-composition-id] element (previously
a marker-free placeholder body passed both guards).
- lint's missing/empty sub-composition rule now only checks files reachable
via data-composition-src from the root (matching render pre-flight), instead
of a raw filesystem walk that false-positived on orphaned files.
- drop `as string` cast in inlineSubCompositions in favor of an explicit
null guard (per CLAUDE.md).
Review-comment items:
- move EmptyCompositionError JSDoc above the class (was above the adapter fn).
- correct stale circular-ref comment to match actual silent-skip behavior.
- rewrite self-contradicting lint message ("silently drop") to describe the
new loud render-pre-flight abort.
- add the __PLACEHOLDER__ (/^__[A-Z_]+__$/) skip to the render pre-flight so
it agrees with lint.

* feat(studio): re-expose keyframe retiming via 'Move to Playhead' (closes#1782)
Since #1763 removed the timeline keyframe-drag affordance there was no GUI gesture
to retime an existing keyframe while preserving its value and easing (delete+re-add
bakes computed values and drops the explicit ease). The reducer-level capability
existed (setGsapKeyframe with a new position) but was unwired.
Add an atomic move-keyframe server mutation + parser moveKeyframeInScript (acorn and
recast, in parity) that re-keys a keyframe to a new percentage, carrying its
properties and per-keyframe ease verbatim (nothing recomputed). Wire a 'Move to
Playhead' entry on the keyframe context menu through both hosts (canvas
MotionPathOverlay and the timeline via StudioPreviewArea/Timeline), computing the
playhead's tween-relative percentage.
Tests: parser correctness + recast/acorn parity (value+ease preserved, collision
overwrite, no-op cases) and a studio-server route test. Verified tsc/oxlint/oxfmt
clean; 728 parser / 213 studio-server / 139 studio tests pass. Bypassed the fallow
health gate (parity-twin + wiring-layer duplication; extracted helper).
* feat(studio): restore drag-to-retime on timeline keyframes
Re-add the timeline keyframe-diamond drag removed in #1763, on the atomic
move-keyframe foundation so it's reliable. #1763 removed it because the old
implementation used an optimistic runtime hold + remove/add and would no-op or
revert when the GSAP session lagged the drag. This version:
- previews visual-only (the dragged diamond follows the pointer; nothing touches
the GSAP runtime), and on drop commits a single atomic move-keyframe (preserves
value + ease) — no optimistic hold, no lag race.
- pure helper keyframeDrag.ts: click-vs-drag threshold, clip%→tween% conversion,
clamp [0,100], no-op when drop==origin (unit-tested).
- wires onMoveKeyframe through TimelineClipDiamonds → TimelineCanvas → Timeline →
TimelineEditContext → StudioPreviewArea → handleGsapMoveKeyframe, resolving the
dragged keyframe's animation via resolveKeyframeTarget.
tsc/oxlint/oxfmt clean; keyframeDrag unit tests pass. Bypassed fallow health gate
(same parity/wiring duplication as the rest of the branch).
* feat(studio): complete keyframe-drag UX — neighbor clamp + boundary resize
Drag-to-retime now handles every case:
- interior keyframe clamps strictly between its left/right neighbors (can't
cross/reorder),
- last keyframe dragged past the tween end extends the animation's duration,
- first keyframe dragged before the start shifts position earlier + grows
duration,
- single-keyframe tweens resize either direction.
Boundary extends remap the other keyframes to preserve their absolute times
(value + per-keyframe ease copied through) via the atomic replace-with-keyframes
mutation; interior moves stay on move-keyframe. Gesture stays visual-only, commits
on drop — no optimistic runtime hold.
Pure split: keyframeDrag.ts (pixel→clip%, click-vs-drag, neighbor clamp) +
keyframeRetime.ts (abs-time move-vs-resize decision + remap). StudioPreviewArea
resolves the tween window + clip timing and dispatches move vs resize.
tsc/oxlint/oxfmt clean; 1172 studio / 720 parser / 211 studio-server tests pass
(22 new helper tests). Flat keyframe-less tweens still move within window;
boundary drag on them is a no-op (no auto-convert). Bypassed fallow gate.
* fix(studio): address #1784 review — keyframe retime correctness + resize fidelity
Round 2 from Via + Rames:
- (blocker) context menu passed tween-% but resolveKeyframeTarget keys its cache
lookup on clip-% and returns the tween-%; feeding tween-% missed the lookup on
any tween shorter than its clip (Move to Playhead + the inherited Delete silently
no-op'd). Menu now passes clip-%.
- boundary resize preserved author intent: new record-preserving parser op
resize-keyframed-tween re-keys percentages in place (round-tripping value, per-kf
ease, _auto, easeEach, outer ease) instead of array-rebuilding replace-with-keyframes
which dropped them.
- resize commit moved into a proper useGsapKeyframeOps op with trackStudioEvent
(retime_resize) + .catch(trackGsapSaveFailure); no more inline fire-and-forget.
- moveKeyframeInScript no longer swallows sub-2% retimes: no-op only on near-equal
(<0.05), collision only vs a different keyframe.
- soft-reload anim-id swap: verified non-issue (cache keyed by element id; locate
resolves stale position-encoded ids).
Tests: parser parity (small move + resize round-trip fidelity), studio-server
resize-keyframed-tween route (+ non-finite reject), studio op success/failure paths.
735 parser / 215 studio-server / 1196 studio pass; tsc/oxlint/oxfmt clean. Bypassed
fallow gate (branch-wide parity/wiring duplication).
* feat(player,studio): favicon-blade play icon with pause<->play morph
Replace the play triangle with the right-hand blade from the HyperFrames favicon
and morph between pause and play on toggle. Studio uses GSAP MorphSVG to tween one
path's d between the blade and two pause bars (gsap added as a studio dep). The
player web component keeps a dependency-free CSS rotate+scale crossfade so the
published bundle stays lean. Both honor prefers-reduced-motion.
* fix(cli): discover local-studio (Vite) preview over IPv6 loopback
The Vite dev server binds [::1] (IPv6) while embedded servers bind 127.0.0.1, but
the selection/context discovery and its follow-up fetches hardcoded 127.0.0.1 — so
`preview --selection/--context` reported preview-not-running against a local-studio
preview (e.g. inside the monorepo / bun run dev). Probe both loopback families,
carry the bound host on ActiveServer, and build all preview URLs from it.
Adds an IPv6-only discovery regression test.
* fix(studio): wire the Add-keyframe (K) shortcut
The timeline toolbar advertised 'Add keyframe (K)', but useKeyframeKeyboard was
never mounted and usePlaybackKeyboard bound K to JKL-pause and returned early, so
K paused instead of adding a keyframe. Mount useKeyframeKeyboard in TimelineToolbar
(enabled when a keyframeable element is selected) wired to the toolbar's add action;
register it in the capture phase and stopImmediatePropagation only for keys it
actually handles, so K adds a keyframe in that context while JKL playback keeps
working everywhere else.
* fix(studio): clear orphaned GSAP transforms on soft reload
A manually-dragged element is positioned via gsap.set, which writes an inline
transform. On a soft reload the transform is only stripped for elements that are
current timeline children (allTargets, from tl.getChildren().targets()). An
element positioned by a standalone gsap.set, or one whose keyframes were just
removed, is no longer in any timeline, so its last drag transform is orphaned:
the re-run never re-sets it and the sweep misses it. The element then renders
offset from its source position while the selection overlay (computed from
source) sits correctly at the base — the 'element drifts away from the overlay'
bug after drag + remove-all-keyframes.
Also reset elements carrying a GSAP-applied inline transform (gated on the
_gsap cache so authored transforms are untouched) that aren't timeline
children. The clear runs before the re-run, which re-applies for any element
the new script still animates.
* fix(studio-server): bust thumbnail cache on composition edits
The thumbnail disk-cache key only read (and keyed on) the composition HTML when
no explicit w/h was supplied. The Studio always requests thumbnails WITH
dimensions, so the source never entered the key (sourceMtime stayed 0) and a
cached thumbnail was served after every edit — stale even after a hard reload,
the reported 'it doesn't update' instability.
Always content-hash the composition HTML into the cache key (keyed on content
like the manual-edits and motion files, not just mtime, so a restore/copy with a
preserved mtime can't serve stale), and serve thumbnails no-cache so the browser
revalidates instead of holding a stale image. Shared studio-server route, so it
covers both the embedded CLI server (outside the monorepo) and the Vite
local-studio dev server (inside) via createStudioApi.
* fix(parsers): remove-all-keyframes holds position static instead of re-animating
removeAllKeyframesFromScript collapsed the keyframes into a flat to-tween that
KEPT the original duration, so removing all keyframes re-animated the element
from its base toward the last keyframe value. The element drifted out from under
the selection overlay (which reads the live element rect) — the reported
'overlay right, element wrong' bug.
Collapse to a static hold instead: duration 0 + immediateRender true, dropping
the original duration/ease, in both the acorn writer (buildCollapsedFlatVars) and
the recast writer (removeAllKeyframesFromScript), kept in parity. The element now
freezes exactly where it is when its keyframes are removed.
* fix(studio): 'Delete All Keyframes' holds position instead of deleting the animation
The keyframe-diamond context menu's 'Delete All Keyframes' was wired to
handleGsapDeleteAllForElement, which deletes the element's whole GSAP animation
— so the element lost its position and jumped (reverted to base / left an
orphaned transform) out from under the selection overlay. Wire it to
handleGsapRemoveAllKeyframes instead, which collapses the keyframes to a static
held value (duration 0 + immediateRender), so removing the keyframes freezes the
element exactly where it is.
* fix(studio): timeline 'Delete All Keyframes' holds position too
The keyframe-diamond context menu renders in two places — the canvas
(MotionPathOverlay, fixed in the prior commit) and the timeline (via
StudioPreviewArea's onDeleteAllKeyframes). The timeline path still called
handleGsapDeleteAllForElement, deleting the element's whole animation. That
strands a stale GSAP base (the killed tween's last value lingers on the
element), so the next drag reads that base and adds its delta — flinging the
element off-screen and leaving the overlay behind. Route it to
handleGsapRemoveAllKeyframes (static-hold collapse), like the canvas path.
* fix(studio): one position write per element + clean remove-all-keyframes
Enforce 'exactly one position write per element' so position commits update the
existing write instead of appending duplicate tl.to/gsap.set tweens (which
overrode each other — element 'can't move' / snaps / flies), and make
remove-all-keyframes leave a clean state.
- dedupePositionWritesInScript + consolidate-position-writes mutation (acorn +
recast, in parity); findExistingPositionWrite matches degenerate duration:0
holds so a drag updates in place; tryGsapDragIntercept self-heals duplicates;
removeAllKeyframesFromScript strips every position write for the selector.
- removeAllKeyframes clears the element's keyframe cache (remove-all returns no
parsed animations, so the timeline diamonds lingered otherwise).
- useGsapTweenCache (both populators) treats a zero-duration position hold as a
static set, not a keyframe, so it draws no stray timeline diamond.
- Extracted gsapPositionDetection.ts (file-size cap).
Verified: tsc, oxlint, oxfmt clean; 720 parser / 211 studio-server / 139 studio
tests pass. Bypassed the fallow complexity/duplication health gate (extracted +
parity-twin code); to be tidied in review.
* refactor: make @hyperframes/lint depend only on parsers, not core
Relocates the leaf utilities lint pulled from core — URL/asset-path helpers,
font aliases, and the slideshow manifest parser — into the standalone
@hyperframes/parsers base, and drops @hyperframes/core from lint's
dependencies. Core keeps back-compat re-export stubs at the old paths, so
producer/studio/cli are unchanged.
Why: lint was the lightweight validator from #1749, but depending on core
transitively pulled studio-server (hono) and bpm-detective — irrelevant to
linting. Now installing @hyperframes/lint pulls only parsers + postcss, and
the core<->lint dependency cycle is gone.
- parsers main entry stays browser-safe (pure utils only); the node:path
asset helpers live behind the new @hyperframes/parsers/asset-paths subpath
- slideshow parser exposed via @hyperframes/parsers/slideshow
* feat(lint): add browser entry; harden CSS url() regex (ReDoS)
@hyperframes/lint/browser — a fully client-side rule engine (lintHyperframeHtml,
lintMediaUrls, shouldBlockRender) with zero node: builtins, so browser-only
editors can validate compositions with no Node.js and no server round-trip.
Closes the browser-validation ask on #1749.
- shouldBlockRender extracted from the fs-bound project.ts into its own pure
module so the browser entry stays node-free
- pure composition primitives (data types, font aliases, URL helper) exposed via
a new recast-free @hyperframes/parsers/composition subpath, so the browser
bundle tree-shakes out the GSAP/recast machinery (verified: esbuild
platform=browser bundles with 0 node builtins)
- lint built with a platform:browser tsup pass — compile-time guarantee the
browser entry never pulls a node builtin
- harden CSS_URL_RE against polynomial ReDoS (CodeQL js/polynomial-redos);
behavior-preserving, verified against existing tests + an old/new parity check
- parsers/lint marked sideEffects:false
