HyperFrames 0.9 is out. Distributed renders on AWS Lambda and Google Cloud Run now run only on Plan v2, so upgrade the SDK and your deployment together. Renders take a time range and a ProRes profile, and they got faster on Macs, in containers and with `--gpu`. Playback in Safari and on iPhone is much steadier. The Studio app comes to Windows. v0.8.205 through v0.9.5 shipped.
## HyperFrames 0.9: Plan v2 only
v0.9.0 is a breaking release. Distributed rendering on AWS Lambda and Google Cloud Run runs only on Plan v2. The Plan v1 transport, the `planProtocol` option and the Plan v1 event and result types are gone ([7f48a6894](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/7f48a6894c42426ae9bc8a913879d4cd0fb72166), [#6970](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6970)). When you move your app to the 0.9 SDK, redeploy your Lambda stack or Cloud Run service from 0.9 too. Drop `planProtocol` from `renderToLambda` and `renderToCloudRun` calls. Passing `"v1"` now throws, and a 0.9 handler answers an old v1 event with `PLAN_PROTOCOL_UNSUPPORTED`. The [v0.9.0 release notes](/changelog) list every removed export. A Lambda render started straight on the state machine with no `PlanProtocol` runs as Plan v2 ([758759673](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/758759673bdd12ef007fc7315ecca1c721875f5a), [#6985](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6985)).
## Render controls
`hyperframes render --start <s> --end <s>` renders only that span of the film, with its audio, as an MP4 that starts at 0 ([5a164fb36](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/5a164fb3693d522ef163570bde82b10af47d2322), [#6834](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6834)). `--prores-profile` picks ProRes 4444, hq, 422, lt or proxy for MOV ([957df5c26](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/957df5c268c6622c94879a701c845d35d72d1762), [#6581](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6581)). `--keyframe-interval`, `--max-bitrate` and `--buffer-size` reach the final encode, so a delivery file needs no second ffmpeg pass ([54d0af57e](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/54d0af57ebe9874d12f7f4b9bebc02ef47713893), [#6444](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6444)). A render with no `-o` writes to the project's renders folder from any directory ([aa094f385](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/aa094f385838cbaca4f85036a6cbe5905c88f2ee), [#6766](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6766)).
An export that passes the loudness ceiling now comes down peak by peak, so quiet passages keep their level ([d1d631f60](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/d1d631f60a6cc949c572831927c7fe86455b21f8), [#6940](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6940)). If a render still has to lower the whole mix, it says so and says how to keep the level ([f9e8cab67](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/f9e8cab67d948adbc115d3f3a0b271659e2521da), [#6938](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6938)). HDR sources are tone-mapped for formats that cannot carry HDR ([313792408](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/313792408d641f702ea7624fd6abda10c957aab3), [#6597](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6597)), and auto renders with colour-graded media stay SDR ([60f711686](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/60f711686ccae602caaed24faa3e225be6d96b12), [#6671](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6671)). HEIC images are converted to JPEG when the project compiles ([ad4d3fad1](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/ad4d3fad139490104f5bbeba66a2892c609e37fc), [#6455](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6455)). A multi-worker or chunked render lands every frame where an in-order render does ([fa9acbd73](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/fa9acbd7399b7cd5ca9940399d9066bb33d96973), [#6707](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6707)).
## Faster renders
High quality MP4s encode with the x264 fast preset ([be05c8693](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/be05c86932be215ec70621dc568af96415555fa0), [#6640](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6640)). Worker sizing uses measured memory budgets and reads a container's CPU quota, so a render in a 10 GB container captures with three workers instead of one ([cd003e201](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/cd003e201051317234598bcf1c70cfed4770613f), [#6641](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6641)). A 14 core Mac with 24 GB of memory and a hardware GPU captures with 8 workers instead of 4, and a 5 minute film renders 43% faster ([e6476c2cd](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/e6476c2cd57d8e605ca4d25f6c8b4fef6fdb322e), [#6636](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6636)). `--gpu` renders encode while frames are still being captured ([6553b1f6b](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/6553b1f6ba75582c0a2d0830cf74a84c434548a0), [#6631](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6631)).
The audio mix runs while capture starts its browsers ([1d97ed24c](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/1d97ed24c647553cefb251c59b1bccc48ff4f09c), [#6632](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6632)), and a remote video downloads once per render instead of twice ([2ddf41eb7](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/2ddf41eb7d0b3aa7a8ee7d267b5090e852bc215e), [#6637](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6637)). Lambda renders with small chunks stitch their output in parallel ([51f9fa7c5](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/51f9fa7c541fa2a8f57ae700d4189396058bbd62), [#6635](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6635)). For a film whose only video fills the whole canvas, `HF_VIDEO_LAYER_PASSTHROUGH=true` lets ffmpeg lay that video under the page instead of capturing it every frame. It is opt-in and off by default ([98520366a](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/98520366a6fccb0447a61f8e4baffa0f2568c359), [#6914](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6914)).
## Playback in Safari and on iPhone
iPhone Safari keeps every take's sound after the first seconds of an edit ([48ba0e5b2](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/48ba0e5b2bf91fc816adc0a7769d7344091aa5d7), [#6724](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6724)), and keeps one connection per file for the take on screen and the next ([036e41fa0](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/036e41fa09e6670f155fa3f2c361b58b8ed77e02), [#7012](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/7012)). Safari keeps an edit's audio playing without seeks or rate changes ([2c1a10f3a](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/2c1a10f3ad1fc2c356d3f9b4a4fd329a6900e806), [#6888](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6888)), stops chopping audio by seeking it over and over ([0c16afd94](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/0c16afd949f2511ca17347eaa113640df0bac1e5), [#6854](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6854)), and has audio ready at each cut ([c25e09211](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/c25e092114459b413d7f44df5c1ad1a05b6cee80), [#7024](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/7024)). WebKit plays bare audio from a decoded buffer on the audio clock ([e181d34ed](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/e181d34edc45e2f9590007ebf7318f8a139bf747), [#6912](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6912)).
In every browser, a video after a cut plays in sync instead of about 70 ms behind ([594df2153](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/594df21537d736d9fa5f0c212504cb51ffc4ce65), [#6494](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6494)). The first cut after Play starts on time ([07c714ce9](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/07c714ce9b139500465b37174971e5f288b854a9), [#6794](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6794)), and long cut lists play every cut without dropped or late frames ([9fd90d23c](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/9fd90d23c4cc1208965c2179cd25a6d871246df9), [#6785](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6785)). A preview video that runs short of data holds the film instead of looping snippets ([8519f2836](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/8519f2836358499f36d3ba79ca3c16bc1318a97f), [#6974](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6974)). The lighter copy of the video at the playhead is made before the rest ([bff39004b](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/bff39004b0312ed903fbe0882ec31c6d0b1a0a25), [#6586](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6586)).
## The browser editor
Long projects are faster. Films with thousands of timed clips stop re-reading every clip each frame ([d83f27674](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/d83f2767436ef85260a42e6c548f9609f99b11ba), [#6805](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6805)). A long timeline stops redrawing every clip when its elements change ([6c78dee99](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/6c78dee99348b057b5d7a0dee01882a8e75b8481), [#6773](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6773)), and stops laying itself out on every render while it settles ([9b0df610c](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/9b0df610cca45bb1bc8bacec78059d3c4443ec09), [#6855](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6855)). Timeline thumbnails come back from disk in the next session ([e38585ef5](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/e38585ef5f5ccc831d804020d3014e2899dda204), [#6676](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6676)), and a clip's thumbnail strip stays put while you trim it ([0ab493115](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/0ab49311597ce1e01ae2f5e438276c5d313ba448), [#6942](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6942)).
Audio keeps playing after a timeline move or trim ([9aa6346a7](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/9aa6346a779328f1c0963ec3d37b856ad164c969), [#6428](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6428)). A split at a clip's edge leaves the file unchanged ([b20d0a62c](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/b20d0a62ce1d1c573c3344b544851875bd2b157c), [#6826](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6826)). Exports larger than 2 GiB download ([164d6c7a3](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/164d6c7a36eba26e9126b364beab98437e2eeec7), [#6602](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6602)). Apps that embed the editor can remap every shortcut, including those with modifiers, Space and the arrow keys ([9fa02badf](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/9fa02badfc20319a292573333c72da715c263bcf), [#6966](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6966)), and can ask which action holds a key combination ([5fca43562](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/5fca435623a5005def2c3d0e5a1c4195e8084a4c), [#6979](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6979)).
## The Studio app on Windows
The CLI and the browser editor offer the HyperFrames app download on Windows, as they do on macOS and Linux ([b76b52937](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/b76b529372480833a851101c24852054589ec8a4), [#6442](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6442)). `hyperframes open <dir>` hands the project to the app on Windows and Linux too ([be4e2e780](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/be4e2e78065b6f3a117ada200de11c35701447ff), [#6484](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6484)). The docs have Windows install steps ([d0c54776f](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/d0c54776fa3008ba31f556eff0bde1c9f3b6a34a), [#6445](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6445)). hyperframes.dev moved to hyperframes.studio, and the docs link straight there ([6ae7c7688](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/6ae7c7688cec29911b66936a24482b1cfb0f9589), [#6585](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6585)).
The CLI is steadier on Windows. `init` creates its files with no Developer Mode ([6dee9d144](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/6dee9d144ce761863d65398c2bc3929610b0773b), [#6463](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6463)). JSON flags can come from a file or stdin, so PowerShell can pass them ([808d642bc](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/808d642bceec4bf98c6289914c4e4333198fdecc), [#6518](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6518)). A render opens no console windows ([6cf4b5669](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/6cf4b5669703d9416d2ec276accff638d4a89ec6), [#6613](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6613)). A locked Chrome `debug.log` no longer fails check, snapshot or render ([6874cc289](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/6874cc289012f31a0c9441d7fff12a277080c077), [#6771](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6771)). Undo and redo restore a file that something holds open ([30df5a48a](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/30df5a48af7bc263aa6d09ba19d44a3339338b07), [#6628](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6628)).
## Check, snapshot and the CLI
`check` has an audio section. It catches audio the render would drop, refuse or play as silence ([d83bf997b](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/d83bf997b0b6bf073a3c764c701eb1d1819104df), [#6439](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6439)). It fails a full-frame element that covers every other clip, and names it ([2a0fa7f4d](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/2a0fa7f4de9704ef5dd8f88b0e974383914e6c3f), [#6572](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6572)). `check` and `snapshot` free the video clips the playhead has left, which halves memory on films cut from many clips ([6b3e7a7a9](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/6b3e7a7a95e11d5d290123ea821b53109d6103c9), [#6929](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6929)). `snapshot` fails when a video frame on screen cannot be read, instead of saving a black or stale frame ([b23b51f4f](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/b23b51f4f0b02cbe2caa8e71d2a35b4cb2f8995d), [#7011](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/7011)). `--timeout` takes units like `45s` ([a669316bf](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/a669316bf2f8ed91907a98b65c1214f4ddcd1a76), [#6521](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6521)).
`hyperframes help <cmd>` works, and an unknown command or flag suggests the closest one ([e2c915132](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/e2c91513203ec9be1833840bcfb35183a3dcee8d), [#6621](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6621)). Commands never prompt or auto-install when nobody is at the terminal ([0bdc128cb](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/0bdc128cb589c99147c76a2e9a5eb4a66f4b1be2), [#6617](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6617)). Every `--json` failure answers in one shape ([85efaece7](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/85efaece7e11a3e420fb4d93b85230781e805942), [#6622](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6622)). A killed CLI no longer leaves its child processes running ([5148326fd](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/5148326fd6632a919d89649d3e7a81b8af742560), [#6431](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6431)). `hyperframes beats <file>` analyses an audio or video file directly ([a37307126](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/a3730712618c1b39520d760a85168178e5869ab0), [#6812](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6812)), and `hyperframes doctor` names the tested ffmpeg build ([98e774384](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/98e774384efdc785c7d49947948e796a8b8b4004), [#6566](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6566)). Lint warns when a `url()` in a linked stylesheet does not resolve beside it ([6cddd1a24](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/6cddd1a24043ce852bcca3e4cf59378a02d400d1), [#6844](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6844)).
## Colour grading
Grade groups grade a whole lane from one `<hf-color-group>`. Clips join it with `data-color-group`, so grading a camera cut into hundreds of clips means editing one attribute ([09b129047](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/09b12904748b71ab1777d335f20026d45d6944ca), [#6678](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6678)). Core can bake a grade into a 3D LUT `.cube` file that matches the preview at the LUT's sample points ([c9017f45f](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/c9017f45f4b8c38e11396a70a3d05d3432c58b48), [#6679](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6679)). 65 point `.cube` LUTs, the size grading apps export, are accepted ([9284e69ff](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/9284e69fff2af4928d41cc376f36d5cfbd789bfd), [#6921](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6921)). A graded clip no longer comes out blank on a real GPU ([9eaf9efb6](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/9eaf9efb69f37de0d6d98324bda1c65c9a924f2f), [#6615](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6615)).
## Skills
`/reverse-any-video` rebuilds a video file as an editable HyperFrames project, checked frame by frame against the original ([f2358315e](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/f2358315e59731833334c5d881a7fb5543c22a97), [#6833](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6833)). It needs HyperFrames Pro and installs on demand ([8089f0049](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/8089f0049ca68bd1f8f88d77838fa34f0459f869), [#7006](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/7006)). On a paid HyperFrames plan, the skills render the final cut in the cloud, while previews and drafts stay local ([2b76e9a70](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/2b76e9a70a749c445cd137946512b0dda8aa770f), [#6884](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6884)). `media-use generate --voice` also takes a language, such as `--voice Chinese` ([8089f0049](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/8089f0049ca68bd1f8f88d77838fa34f0459f869), [#7006](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/7006)).
## Sign-in, privacy and security
The CLI signs in with its own HyperFrames login, kept in `~/.hyperframes`, so another CLI can no longer overwrite it. Run `hyperframes auth login` once after you upgrade ([3e462f427](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/3e462f427723e81352fea956b155848428cf1319), [#6687](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6687)). Signed-in CLI usage is identified by your HyperFrames user id, and the docs no longer call signed-in usage anonymous ([1c3fcf4d2](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/1c3fcf4d237d031107baa6a5646b5bb1ee82cc2a), [#6703](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6703)). Downloads refuse hosts that resolve to private addresses ([9830059bd](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/9830059bdb08adbab473d059d1b6db2230a5bb15), [#6571](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6571)). A project's `.env` only sets the CLI's own settings ([838f8782c](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/838f8782c4a96913d1627cd344be8431e7c44019), [#6565](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6565)). Browser sign-in stays open through checkout ([34ddced2d](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/34ddced2d0e9350c2b6387b2365257bb7080e832), [#6879](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6879)).
## Docs
The Prompt Guide is six topic pages ([12030b0ee](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/12030b0ee8bcb8dc8ba8215c13ddf9cf4030961f), [#6378](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6378)). The editor that `hyperframes preview` opens is now called the browser editor, with six pages of its own, so it is not mixed up with the Studio app ([0390f3f90](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/0390f3f908d1caa24ce609f402468eb52bf0c75c), [#6379](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6379)). The top bar has one Docs menu and the Catalog ([4cee7be83](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/4cee7be834c18b571da1cfcda6e3eaeca7689855), [#6860](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6860)), and the docs link the free lessons ([0163ee11a](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/commit/0163ee11a75a3409b9146a642bab0f80c3bdad1b), [#6588](https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes/pull/6588)).
